Anyone know where I can buy some self control???

I've found recently, that for as much joy as I get out of buying knives, I can get that same fix without buying knives, but rather by spending that money on enhancing knives that I have.

Recently I havent been buying that many knives, but rather accessorizing and improving the ones I have. Aftermarket scales that enhance the grip the "premium feel" and the aesthetics of the knife, custom leather sheaths that make an already great knife that much better to carry around, sending a knife to a pro sharpener, etc...

I don't need more. But if I can improve what I already have, I'm getting that much more enjoyment from my beloved hobby, and more use from the knives.

It’s hard to find self-control for sale on the internet. Knives however, you can buy all kinds on dozens of websites.....that’s a problem for me too but the only solution is to buy knives until you run out of money. Then go to your credit cards if you have any. Then, once they’re maxed out....problem solved!

I finally found a handful of knives that I didn't see any reason to try to replace. They fill all the niches I have thought to fill. Don't lose hope - it took me six years to find these knives, and I still habitually check BHQ/GPKnives/Knifecenter's new arrivals to see if something pops up that does what my current roster does even better.

If you find a knife that is WAY out of your price range comfort zone, and buy it anyways, you will have effectively forced self control upon yourself as you won't be able to afford another knife as you struggle to pay your bills....

What's that line from the Clint Eastwood film where he witnessed the president stabbing someone..... I'm all out of forgiveness, or in this case, self control.

Puleeez don't make me control myself. it hurts too bad.

I dont keep a lot of knives anymore. If I buy one I sell one or two first. Makes you think about what you're getting more.

I think using your knives helps you not buy more, cause then you'll get 'more' from each knife and also realize you don't need as many. But that's just what I speculate would happen; I don't actually use my knives all that much :D

TIP: Whatever you do DO NOT go to Knife Center and locate the orange "Find It" interface on their website. It allows you to search their entire inventory by premium blade steels. You will have many dozens of knives that you must purchase.

DON'T DO IT...

So Christmas is coming. Sales are here. And they have managed to get about 3 times my monthly knife budget this month. Just ordered my first WE knife. The Wisp.
WE-Wisp.jpg

30% off sealed the deal. That's on top of 2 new Arno Bernard's arriving a few days ago. Also on sale.

Hoping no other sales show up in my email inbox before payday. Who knew this could become such an expensive hobby??? o_O

I bet if you pay a few of us a "self control fee" every month we will buy some knives and you can sleep better at night.

I can tell you 2 places not to find it. DLT Trading and Knivesshipfree.

I can name 2 more;
Definitely don't look for self control from any custom knife sellers out of Arizona, nor any sites from Louisiana that specialize in custom knives coming from South Africa...
DEFINITELY DON'T LOOK IN THOSE PLACES!!!

Ahh. it sounds like you've been possessed by the Christmas Spirit indeed.
You need to turn it around.
Now, wrap those new puchases up and give them to the needful have nots.
For it is in giving that you will ultimately receive your redemption
in matters of unfettered exorbitance..
Once you start buying only the best for the poor,
you might feel happier with spending beyond your means :-)

So many responses that need responses...

You can't buy it. You already have it. Might just need to dig deeper in yourself to find it.
Hey you're right! I just found it under this sales flyer for buck knives that are on sale! I'll get those 2 new fixed blades in S35VN I've been wanting and then the self control will be free and clear for me!

Ask yourself, do you need it? Are you going to use it? I looked around and have way more knives than I'll ever need, or use. I was buying them just to get something new.

This past week I bought something I really need instead. A little lightweight Stihl chainsaw. I was using it yesterday to cut up ice storm downed limbs and trim trees. It was a pleasure to use compared to my big firewood saw. 200 dollars, it suddenly seemed a bargain considering how much more there is to it, than a 200 dollar knife!

So instead of using that bushcraft knife for batoning, you got a chain saw instead

I’m fresh out, sorry. :(

We are away in the countryside for the weekend and I ‘lost’ my Mercator K55K yesterday. It is one of the cheapest knives I own, but also one of the most loved and most used. Beautiful natural patina.

So... I ordered a replacement last night. And then this morning my daughter cheeefully told me she had found it under the bed. I guess now I will have a spare...
So the problem is a second Black Cat??? I'm not seeing the problem. In fact now that you mention it, Mine could use a back up as well. o_O

Therapy or a phyciatrist will cost quite a bit of money to help with your self control. It eat into your knife funds...
He's already been charging me at a group rate for years. Think I'm going to have to tell him to cut down on the luxury vacations I seem to be paying for.

I always say to myself ok lets wind this down now, then I look on just pics of knives of one of those threads, see something cool and start right back up.You guys and your pictures don't help stop this insanity !
Ya, pay backs are a B****! lol

Stay away from all knife related websites and dont look at the displays in stores. It's the only way! :p
If you can't provide a serious answer.....

I’ve spent my way into self control.
Just keep buying and at some point you’ll find it.

Hard to buy more when the money’s run out.

Now, I've tried that approach already with women. My personal results don't confirm your hypothesis. :(

easy. turn power off and wifi off and head outside and enjoy what ya already got. if ya cant get emails trying to get ya to open your wallet and cant browse here and see what's going on...you wont be tempted.:)

That would work. If I didn't have 50 Gigs of RAM in my head storing a list and photos of "gotta get it".

40 + years of fixing stuff for other people has left me a bit disinterested in the fix it for the fun of it arena. I've evolved more into a "wouldn't it be great to have something new and actually worked, and didn't need to be fixed. I can dream can't I?

I have some here in my back pocket...checking...

...seems what I thought was self control was just pocket lint.

This lint... is it custom? What is the HRC on it???

Well thank you SO much for that Mr. Helpful... The wish list just got even longer.

If they sold "self control" , I'd probably become addicted !:p

I heard that was only in the injection version. The pill form was supposed to be non-habit forming. OR is that just marketing BS from big Pharma companies?

I bet if you pay a few of us a "self control fee" every month we will buy some knives and you can sleep better at night.

I appreciate the offer, but with my apnea, I don't see how.

Yes, Arno Bernard has definitely proven your words to me on several occasions now. I think he may be coating his knives in nicotine before shipping to create a bunch of knife addicts. It's the only logical explanation!

Hey, I can't help if you won't let me.
