Anyone know where to get JUST the blade for a Military?

Hey guys,

So I'm having a little problem.. I need a new blade for my military.. You see, I use this thing as much as I use my hand on a day to day basis. It does some really rough cutting and has been sharpened a lot. It looks pretty bad and a couple millimeters of steel are missing from it. Normally, I wouldn't mind.. In fact, I'd think it's pretty cool. The problem is, I will be entering the Army National Guard this year (and will be in training in the Warrant Officer program) and this was going to be my main duty knife. It is such a great knife, but I feel like the blade has been "used up". This may sound ridiculous for some, but I'm being completely serious.

My question to you guys is; Where can I find JUST a blade for a Military? It is a later model (C36CMOBK). I also don't care if it is black or satin, PE SE or CE, I just really need a new blade because I cannot afford a new knife altogether. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think you have a warranty issue. The warranty doesn't cover normal wear and tear, and the blade getting "used up" due to sharpening is part of normal wear and tear. And as far as I know, Spyderco doesn't replace blades.

Yeah, well aware of that. I'm not inquiring if it is a warranty issue or if they'll replace it. Just trying to figure out where to get a new blade from

I don't think you can buy just the blade. At least I've never heard of it being done. I hope you can resolve your problem, and good luck in the Army National Guard.

Thanks. Hope to be flying AH-64 D's soon

Well.. If any one here has a blade that they would be willing to sell that would rock but I doubt it would happen :o

Each blade tang is ground to fit the lock bar. In the highly unlikely event that someone will sell you just the blade from their knife, chances are it will not fit properly.

You have had people take the blade out of a perfectly good knife and sell you it, while keeping the handle?

I never said that. I've said i've used military's with a handle from one a blade from another. Not too uncommon if I recall correctly.

Well if you think it will work, you could buy a new or used knife and swap the blades. . . but then why not just use the new knife as is.

Most often the locking liner makes the transition as well so it's not just a straight blade swap. There've been reports of problems with switching just the blade, most recently we had a member that purchased a blade-swapped Military that had problems with the detent hole. The blade/lock interface is a complex one that needs to be preserved in order for the knife to function optimally.

I don't think it's a good idea to swap just the blade. Disregarding the lock issue, I'm not sure how much you could save by purchasing just the blade. I would recommend just keeping the knife and reducing the edge bevel to improve cutting performance. Or, keeping a sharp eye on the exchange here and eBay. It is not unheard of to see Militarys sell for $65-75. A completed listing search on eBay shows several that have sold for considerably less than street price at a regular retailer.

Perhaps learning to sharpen on a stone would save you some money in the future. ;)

Link. Looks like you caused several years worth of wear in a short amount of time. How does the blade look now?

For comparison, here's the wear on my Atlantic Salt. Sharpened at least once a week, re-beveled several times and used very hard. Lots of life left.

I think it's been made pretty clear that no one sells blades. So either save up for a millie or use the one you have.
