Anyone know where to get JUST the blade for a Military?

I'm not asking if the the locks will match the tang. I'm not asking if the blade has more life in it. I'm not asking for you to tell me what to do. The question was simple and that was all I am looking for. If you don't have any relevant information for me, then I'm not interested. Thanks.

I think the relevant information is the fact nobody will sell you the blade from their knife, but you could buy a new or used knife.

Tom Krein -a knife maker on the forums-re-grinds knives. If your saying you've sharpened your military enough to get to a thicker part of the blade, he'll thin it down again. I've never gotten a knife re-ground by him but I seen many people with them. I'd look him up.

This is also a discussion forum where people are allowed to discuss things regarding knives without your permission.

I think EDCguy had the best idea in considering your circumstances. Send the blade to Tom Krein and he will regrind the blade ANY way you want for around $40 and he can even add a swedge or something if you so please.

That or they are clearing out serrated paramilitaries a ton of places for cheap because they are discontinued. Check ebay if interested.

thank you edcguy, that is helpful. I'll see if I can reach Tom today and see what he can do for me. I'll also check out ebay for those SE paras.

Mongomondo-you don't need to elaborate the deep intricasies of a discussion forum to me.

It sounds like you screwed up your knife and now you are mad about it.

No one is going to take the blade off their handle and sell it to you and leave them with a useless handle. You can't buy a blade from Spyderco so no one is going to have an extra blade.

So you can try to have the blade reground.

You can try sending it off to someone who knows how to sharpen but it is still going to be used up as you put it.

If you can afford 40-60 bucks for a blade regrind or to buy a new blade then purchase a different knife in that price range. You should be able to get an endura which will serve you just as well.

You can look for a used military to buy.

You can try to sell or trade yours with some money towards a different one.

But you have been repeatedly told that just the blade will not work and that at the minimum you also need the locking liner to go with it. Why you are not willing to take the advise is strange. If you did find someone that would sell a blade then you would have a knife that didn't work right and you would be out however much money you paid and would really be mad then.

If you don't like it then put it away and figure out a way to get another knife. If it is that big of a deal then sell something. Don't get upset when you are told it wont work and figure out a way to make something work. Have you looked to see if you will even be allowed to have a knife when you enter the Army National Guard?

Geez dude, just replace the whole knife already....

I guarantee you even IF Spyderco sold replacement blades they wouldn't cost much less than a whole new knife.

There are ALWAYS Millies going on the Exchange, if you just spend some time there, I guarantee you will pick one up for a good price.

Some knives exchange blades better than others. The Military is not one of the better ones.
As mentioned, buy used if you don't have the cash, you can find many like new knives on the forum. Or just save up for a new one.

Among the problems with trying this with a Military is the fact that the tolerances and probably even the base dimensions have changed a great deal over the long life of this knife.

I just found a like new Military (black blade, half serrated) in the pocket of one of leather jackets, that I haven't worn in years. I have a weird habit of putting knives/firesteels in every jacket I own, even if I no longer wear them. If you don't have email capability, let me know and we'll work out something.

Wow, I wish I could find a military in one of my jackets.

I hope you can find what you are looking for but it will need to be on the secondary market. Try to find someone selling a Military that their dog eat the handle or something crazy. Just make sure you keep the liner lock with the same blade it came with to have the best chance of success.

I for one would love to see a picture of your Military that has been loved and used so much!

One last option, is have Tom Krein regrind it to to a nice thin edge (0.012" to 0.015") which would clean up the flat grind and he would sharpen it while he had it for the work as part of the regrind fee. Just a suggestion.

Hope this helps.

Doug

EDIT: I just posted a visitor message that might be of interest depending how badly your blade is right now.

Hey again guys thanks for all of the posts. I admit i was getting agitated, but not cause of my knife. I'll keep an eye out on the exchange and if I can't find anything will have it reground. I'll make sure to posts some pictures of it later on.

thanks again.

Must be...

I have a FRN Delica4 with a transplanted full-flat ground blade out of a G-10 version.

Everything's tight and right and just like downtown.:D

Could you throw up or email me some photos of your used up military? I have a thing for old, well-used blades :o

If you are willing to shell out $40 for the Krein regrind, then maybe someone could buy your old millie and you could put the funds towards a new knife. I've seen some pretty beat up users sell for almost half their original value.
