Anyone live around Orange County??

Jerry Schad has several good books on hikes/trails in L.A., Orange and San Diego counties, plus others. contrary to what some may think, Southern CA has lots of open space and wilderness areas to enjoy.

I am in San Juan Capistrano (Laguna) alot and hike the cleveland national forest. I live in West Covina which is closer to Mt. Baldy, San Gabriel Mountains and Lytle Creek.

I'm in LA. So far I like Los Padres which is up by Santa Barbara.
I just moved here in Oct. so haven't gotten out much more then a few times.

I live in Mission Viejo. There are some great trails here in OC. Try Holy Jim, West Horse Thief, and my new favorite trail is Bell Ridge located in the Santa Ana's. Check out Geoladders.com. I mostly mountain bike these, but good singletrack trails.

We should all get together some time and have a west coast camp out or survival skills weekend. Who would be interested in something like that?

hey sauer, i know up in victorville they have a trout lake that is maintained by the county. when i was stationed at fort irwin i used to go there a bunch.

Yeah  Or we could even meet up at one of Christophers day classes in Angeles NF. His wild food outings are much more than that, that's where I learned to make fire by hand drill, cordage etc.

Here's his schedule

Regarding fishing, I've never had a satisfying fresh water fishing experience in So CA. But going deep sea is fantastic.

BTW, I accidentally came across this web site recently, which really piques my interest in several places around L.A. I've come really close to several sites without even knowing they were there. Now, I'm not inclined to actually explore inside abandoned mines, but many of these are in interesting areas nonetheless.

heck i would be down for it as well... Looks as we got a good group on this side.

I say group hike and backpack trip in the San Gabriels. Lytle Creek is a nice remote spot with some privacy for skills. There are waterfalls, big horn sheep and snakes. I know this area well and could lead the hike if you want. Its off the 15 fwy. abd 215 fwy. Its an hour away from orange county and less if you are near Inland Empire.

I live in orange county! drop me a line if you want to meet up.

Getting a bladeforums meet up would be great. Perhaps even a shooting meet at one of the out door ranges. I got a original M1 garand (the one that goes pinnnng) and carbine and a FN hi-power and will hopefully have my NRA instructor cert. at the end of may.
