I do not own any of their blades as of yet, I remember when Pitdog posted a picture of it here several months ago and have been waiting. It is now available and at a good price so I placed my order, curious to see how she does.
http://www.topsknives.com/product_info.php?products_id=371&osCsid=gd0b31tvqq20tr4bd5e55dq4u0 I also picked up one of the Power Eagles, figured that would make a nice set, looking forward to trying them out.
ETA I hope I didn't break any rules by posting the link here, this was not intended to be a deal spotting thread, if so mods feel free to edit out the link.

That's actually a very nice MSRP for a knife like that. I'm impressed!

Should be a good knife at a great price.

So who are BOB ........... are Joe and Ruben part of the Team?

I know Joe is part of the team at the least. I would be surprised if Ruben wasn't! I love pretty much any design that Joe has had influence on, though, and this one is no exception. His Rodan design for Condor is one of my favorite outdoor knives, and the TOPS Shango is a heck of a pocket fixed blade.

I discovered this a few days ago and was extremely impressed with how much belly and point they managed to squeeze into a 4 inch knife. Looks like an ideal survival/bushcraft knife, the best of both worlds. It's on the wish list!

I am intrigued as well - and I am not a TOPS fan. The planning looks nice.

Can't go wrong with 1095, scandi, and 4.5 inches.

I was looking through TOPS new knives and that BOB definitely caught my eye.

By the way, silverbullet, it's only deal-spotting if you link to a dealer who isn't a paid BF Dealer member. TOPS is a manufacturer, so they are OK.

Hello,

I have never liked tops but that one is very nice and the price seems very reasonable. Reminds me of a mini esee-5.

Have a good one,

Chris

It's a good looking knife. Not a bad price, either. Hopefully SMKW will have some in stock when I visit in a couple of months so I can check it out.

TOPS is not my cup of tea but that's a nice looking knife. They had me right up to 3/16th. :barf: It looks like it will cut about like my BHK Boattail Scandi, like a sharpened brick. Too bad, so sad. But good on TOPS for getting as far as they did in the realm of reason. Can't say how it would function unless I held it but I at least like the idea of the divot for your thumb for certain grips. May have been better to simply ramp the whole edge of the handle toward the blade.

Silverbullets,

Let us know how it is when you get some use on it. Enjoy your new knives.

God bless,
Adam

thanks for the heads up, just wanted to be safe. I will definitely post up a review and pics when they arrive, thanks for the replies

Looks good, except for the script they insist on putting all over their blades. It's such a turn-off for me.

I agree. I have issues with scandi grinds at 1/8" thick let alone 3/16." Should be a good wood processor but for general utility you might have to carry a second blade that's either thinner or of a different grind.

Looks like even though it's 3/16" the scandi grind comes way back, which leads me to believe it's a nice narrow bevel. I think it would likely perform better than you would expect, though of course that remains to be seen. I like thin blades, myself, so I get where you're coming from. :)

I got to play with the protos at Blade. It feels really good in hand. I definitely like the knife and plan to order one.

I have a Camillus Pilot's survival knife which I brought back to a zero grind. It's 3/16" also, and tears wood up. In my opinion, that's what a bushcraft knife needs to do anyway. Probably makes a decent hunting knife too. I don't use a blade to skin game (and you shouldn't either, if you want to keep the hide hole free), so after opening it up and cutting what needs cut inside it gets put away.

It's just about perfect... Why the BOB guys let them put "traction coating" on the blade is beyond me. I've never been cutting something and thought "I really wish there was some more drag here so I could cut slower." That's a big fail, and will prevent me from getting this knife.
