Lol I’m trying! Got a TGULB for sale right now to fund it.
if you really actually put it to Use, please let us know....So quick update on the Bowie (I actually forgot about this thread).
I got it from ACK.
Unfortunately I sent it back the next day.
Blade was slightly bent and edge was slightly bent in a different direction.
Third bent blade I’ve gotten from them FYI, so now I always check.
The good news is that since I didn’t keep it I was able to get an even better (albeit more expensive) Bowie from Bill Siegle:

Amazing knife - can’t put it down.
The MMHW was nice and had it been straight I would have kept it, but it did feel overly heavy and was kinda thick behind the edge. Very sturdy design though.
Cool looking, hopefully it works for you, and is comfortable.Oh I will for sure!
Just gotta take a few more glamor shots before she gets any scratches…

Thx! I actually had it along last night for a solo search and rescue hike in a very dark and chilly forest (Nisene Marks). Didn’t end up using it but I feel confident I could make a quick shelter/bed from a few de-linbed trees in about 45 minutes with this sucker…Cool looking, hopefully it works for you, and is comfortable.
I'm glad that's working out.....Thx! I actually had it along last night for a solo search and rescue hike in a very dark forest (Nisene Marks). Didn’t end up using it but I feel confident I could make a quick shelter/bed from a few de-linbed trees in about 45 minutes with this sucker…
The handle is the most comfortable and secure I’ve ever felt, again having not used it yet. It’s very smooth - almost polished feeling but not quite so the micarta still provides “micro-traction” while feeling very soft in the hand. Also the first couple inches of spine and the integral guard are nicely chamfered and very comfortable. This is the “farm hand” style handle FYI.

So I think you kinda outed the makerHow do I critique a designers knife?
I know there's truth holding a knife first before buying, but that's not always possible. Recently I purchased semi custom midtech knife. I was able to choose the color of micarta scales, and I was able to choose the blade grind. I choose natural color, and a traditional grind which is a robust...www.bladeforums.com
Something from when I bought one.....
Love the large, awkward blade, but the handle needs work.
*I Just started working on it again, bought handle material, and started grinding
I felt it was ok, since I got a Positive response from them. I felt it was good customer service back then.So I think you kinda outed the maker- you should post some pics!
Also you might not need to remove the scales - just grind them along with the steel…
The fact that he offered to regrind the handle to your specs for $20 is amazing customer service imo!!!felt it was ok, since I got a Positive response from them. I felt it was good customer service back then.
Not sure, I was thinking of making the front pin hidden?Wow that’s a monster!!
Lamb Splitter yeah?
You might already be planning this (and maybe why you removed the scales), but since this is differentially hardened it would be easy to drill a new, centered hole for the forward pin to keep the handle more aesthetically pleasing.
And yeah maple and brass would look awesome I think…
I’d also do some extra rust-proofing on the handle unless you plan to make the new scales removeable…
That would work but it might look a bit off…You know what might look good and keep it balanced? Two smaller holes/pins (upper and lower) slightly forward of the original front hole. Not sure, I was thinking of making the front pin hidden?
Haven't tried, I might need carbide? That would work but it might look a bit off…You know what might look good and keep it balanced? Two smaller holes/pins (upper and lower) slightly forward of the original front hole.
