Anyone Read Any Good Books Lately?

As an avid reader, I'm always looking for something to tingle my mind. I tend to borrow a lot of books and then go out and buy a copy of the ones that I absolutely love. I think I'm going to have to make a room into a library, but there is nothing wrong with that. :D Has anyone read anything they couldn't put down or maybe you just found a book so interesting and different that you just have to share it with others. Please share some of your favorites.

It's been way too long since I've read a good book. Most of my reading now is gun and knife magazines.

At one point I had read every Dean Koontz book. Now it seems I just don't have the time.

just finished a non fiction by alfredo rodriguez called "midnight in mexico" it was very interesting and for fiction i would say dan simmons "the terror" and david wingrove's series "CHUNG KOU".

I've re-re-reread Ender's Game this month in prep for the movie. Maybe my favorite fiction book ever.

J. Abercrombie " The Blade itself " (the whole First Law series is very good)

David Wong " John dies at the end" ---strange but very good

Just reread for the twentieth time-- Douglas Adams " The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy"-- the entire series is excellent

Have you tried , or considered, an e-reader?? Of the many e-readers ,not tablets which are computers, I prefer Amazon's Kindle line up and book service.

There is a HUGE selection of free , or VERY inexpensive, e-books to choose from on Amazons site. There are also other ways to get e-books for other brand e-readers many for free or library sourced. Amazon now allows Kindes to get books from the library. http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html?ie=UTF8&docId=1000718231

Don't let the new e-reader price scare you since there is a vast market of used e-readers in like new shape for much less than new. I bought my Kindle Keyboard barely used from a student on ebay. Then I needed to get an e-reader that offered larger print than my Keyboard could display so I just bought a Kindle DX which is just great since I can now read any book I want in large print !

All this said there is an e-reader ,and support system, out there for everyone that loves to read.

If you are into history, David McCullough's John Adams is completely fascinating. It is largely derived from John Adam's diary and some 1100 letter he wrote during his lifetime, and is the closest we may get to time travel. Imagine reading the details of Adam's first audience with King George III after the Revolutionary war (link), or Adam's account of sleeping in the same bed with Benjamin Franklin while traveling, or having dinner with George Washington and an Indian tribe. After reading it, I bought it on 24 CDs and have listened to it in the car several times. Other similar books by McCullough like 1776 and Truman are also fascinating.

I know I'm late to the game......but I started the series

GAME OF THRONES

greatest thing I've read

I'm with RobertK on Enders Game. Look into the rest of the Ender series and Bean series by O.S.Card. It gets really deep. Fascinating reads.

Have you read the book American Sniper by Chris Kyle the navy seal? It's a great book. He was recently shot and killed by someone he was trying to help out at a shooting range I believe.

Last funny one I read. In Fifty Years We'll All Be Chicks: ...and Other Complaints from an Angry Middle-Aged White Guy by Adam Carolla. Funny as can be. I alternate between serious and funny. Also the Guy Code by Barney Stinson for How I met your Mother. Serious books lately have been American Sniper and Lincoln

Right. I found Ender's Shadow almost as enjoyable as EG. I wasn't a fan of Shadow of the Hegemon as much. It was good, but the (non-spoiler) villain really bothers me, and it was much more of the political strategy than the tactical strategy that I most enjoyed in EG. Still, very good and I want to read more of them.

I don't have anything against e-readers. I have the Kindle app on my iphone. I just have this thing about owning books. I love the feeling of being the first to crack the spine and experience the book. I've been thinking about getting the Kindle HD for a while, but then I'd have to justify purchasing a book twice if I really liked it.

The last books I read by Dean Koontz were his Frankenstein trilogy. I really liked his take on the idea. Keep the recommendations coming, I want a large library like the one in Beauty and the Beast. :D

I second this. EXCELLENT book!!! And if you do like military/action/nonfiction books.....Lone Survivor by Mark Lutrell is even better. Couldn't put the book down! Based on the true story of four Navy SEALS in enemy territory. There will be a movie rendition that comes out in November of this year, with Mark Wahlberg starring as Lutrell. Please read!

Bag of Bones was one of my favorites. but I think the best book I ever read was The Hobbit. I'm not a very fast reader but I read that book cover to cover in just about 3 hours. I couldn't look away. I tried to stop but I couldn't. haven't delved into the lord of the rings trilogy yet but I keep thinking I should

o I just remembered The Lovely Bones was an amazing book WAYYYY different form the movie version.

Another book I read recently was Ready Player One. If you're not a partial geek or have a fondness for 80s lore, it might not be as appealing, but I love it. I don't know how to summarize it quickly, so you'll have to look it up.
