Anyone really impressed by Cold Steel's DVDs?

One more thing about the physical fitness stuff: based on the pictures I've seen of a lot of knife-makers, I wouldn't call them physical specimens either.

So let's lay-off of LT and his physical appearance.

I just watched both dvd's and thought they were pretty neat. They do show the products as being tough users.I already own several Cold Steel knives and a walking stick and the ones I have are fairly good quality. The Proof video wouldn't encourage me to buy any one knife but I've already decided on what to get next. And NO,I'm not buying a spear, sword or pointy throwing spikes either. :p Some of Mr. Thompson's designs don't do anything for me but to each his own.tom.

For seven bucks you cant to wrong... I like it more than my ontario ... thinner blade... more cutting power better handle.. I think it's great

Well, I don't understand why some post are so offending against the figure of Lynn Thompson? Nothing wrong with being a bit overweight!
Let's talk knives instead of offending the way someone is build. I bet more than 50% of us "forum members" are a bit overweight, or we know someone close who is!
So lets stop this crap and why don't we show some respect to the big guys/girls among us "respected forum members"!

Ok, I love the CS SRK, Ti-Lite (titanium handles) and the Gunsite serie, nothing wrong with those knives.
The dvd is somewhat overdone, but then again, I love knives and the dvd is amusing.

Regards.

Good call Magnum - I've been to the fat side and back in my life so I should have shown a little more compassion. :footinmou

Even so - LT just reeks of insincerity and poor credibility to me. Every serious warrior/adventurer I have come across is as fit as a malee bull. Maybe not Brad Pitt but still with some sort of hardness about them. Someone out there promoting themselves as such with LT's physique just trips my BS meter.

Not sure how to go after LT's physique. I'm 5-11, 215#, bench 250, leg press 600, but I don't look it. Nowhere near it. There's a genetic aspect to it. Even when I boxed in HS, I never had a six-pack- my genes simply don't allow it. The rest of my family is the same way. Dad has a pretty healthy gut, but he's also one of the strongest people I've ever seen.

LT could be as strong/fit as he claims. It is possible, but I'm not sure.

In terms of a 6-pack, genes are a big factor. So is diet. The size of your abs matters less than how much tissue surrounds them.

Bodybuilders fast and dehydrate before a competition (and some of them take speed) to make the skin thinner, tighter and more transparent, as well as dropping of fat. Wrestlers have a similar process, with more emphasis on dehydration. If you want a six pack, you have to work abs regularly, yes, and run regularly too. Start today! Its never too late... ;)

I think Lynn Thompson's a hypocritical jerk and it's obvious that Cold Steel is constantly downgrading their quality, but...

Maybe I am mistaken, but it seems to me that seeing some overwieght dudes slashing, hacking or stabbing various objects really says very little about the knives, not only because there is no way of cheking the actual conditions of the tests, but because no similar test are performed on the competition (for example, I would love to see how much weight Benchmade's AXIS lock can can take).

...that's definitely not Cold Steel's fault.

CS at least made the video. not that it proves anything but no one else does it. Kinda makes you wonder.

Yes, as I said, I'm a 300+ pounder myself. I would get upset if I did a video on courtroom techniques and people commented on my fatness. But, if I did a video trying to establish my athletic prowess, particularly as in the warriors series, then I think people would comment.

Hi Shann,

Thanks for your sober and logical comment. It goes without saying that the issue in the video was LT's looks precisely because he put himself in the role of some fierce warrior/slasher and yes, of course, this says nothing about the quality of CS knives (unlike the silly demonstrations themselves, not matter by whom they are done).

What kind of hyper-politically-correct world are we living in if somebody put himself in a silly situation and we cannot laugh?!

Frankly, if tomorrow somebody in a wheelchair was pictured in a karate video for the general public (rather than for handicapped people), I would also laugh. Not at this person's plight, but at the obviously silly choice made by the video producers.

And no, we are probably not all good looking and fit athletes, but at least we do not market ourselves the way LT did. Also, and if I am not mistaken, *all* the dudes in the CS DVD were overweight and that makes their videos even more a legitimate object of amusement.

Speaking for myself, I have no need for thought partrol policemen telling me what I should or should not say, in particular on behalf of other, assumingly offended, people.

Kind regards,

TN
