Anyone recognize this?

I would say that probably IS actual layered "steel", but likely junk composition. It's extremely poorly made all around. Looks to be Pakistani garbage and not worth 5 bucks.

To be fair to Mr. Brown, I don't know if he designed the knife before being asked to provide a knife for the movie, or if he designed it specifically for the movie. I do know that I never saw one before the movie.
The design pre-dated the movie by a considerable amount of time.
There are at least 3 people who have made a claim to the design, the earliest being Robb Russon, who says he was approached by Brown to create a new knife design in the early 1980s, after which Brown stole the design from him and claimed it as his own. Ed Lombi was then approached by Brown to make the knives, and he produced them for a while, after which Dave Beck was making them. When Beck stopped, TOPS knives took over production.
Nobody really seems to know who designed / copied / stole what from who and when though...and there are a number of threads discussing this story here....

LOL My girlfriend always sends me pictures of the crappy knives she has to send into corporate after they get donated to GW, this is totally par for the course.
Just saw the price though, FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS? HAHAHA!

I literally got my EDC case on a whim after I took her to lunch one day and decided to look around. Seven dollars. The other one I was looking at was from Wise Men Company, you know, the guys who sell aftermarket (admittedly, very functional) waves and retention rings, like .50c worth of aluminum, for $30 bucks a pop? I was looking at their "Crate of Wrath" for like five-hundred, HA. Goodwill can be an awesome place.

I love WMC, they make the best wave out there, but jeez... I should invest in a CNC machine. Make tactical doo-dads that are quality, will stand up to use, and will likely just be toys for EDC people.

Certainly would go there before I'd go to Salvation Army...

What is the function? A movie prop.

That style of knife (Tracker) was featured in a major Hollywood movie ("The Hunted").

To be fair to Mr. Brown, I don't know if he designed the knife before being asked to provide a knife for the movie, or if he designed it specifically for the movie. I do know that I never saw one before the movie.

I never saw the practicality of it. The amount of curvature of the forward edge doesn't look like it would be a good chopper. Nor does it look like the tip would be of any use for things like gutting fish, or any detailed knife work that might come up out in the wild.

I think it's a "solution" in search of a problem that doesn't exist.

But hey, it was in a movie, so I'm sure that alone makes a lot of people think it's awesome, and the most deadly/useful knife design on earth. And that's a good enough reason for them to buy one.

No offense intended to people who own and like them. To each their own. :)

I found some information about Tracker knife and now I understand it better. It is designed to handle the tasks of a small hatchet and regular knife. In my opinion a proper Sami knife (leuku) is better hatchet and knife.
