Anyone regularly shave with your "shaving sharp" knife?

I shave with one of my knives all the time, just not on my face. If this were wine and cheese I could tell you where a 30 degree edge works really well. :foot:

Im thinking of buying opinel No 6 for shaving, because of its thin blade and that it is a folder. I want to put really thin edge on it and I dont want to destroy my No 8 ( my bushcrafting backup), plus the No 8 is a little unnecessarily big for shaving.
I dont really get whats the fuss about that it hurts and stuff, if you have a good edge it doesnt hurt at all.
BTW, anyone else using Opinel for this kind of job?

Not regularly, but I'll use my pocket knife to shave spots I missed on the neck or face.:)
What the hell's the point of carrying something sharp and not using it?

Gillette Fusion ProGlide for me. Quick and easy. My blades dont touch my face/neck area or any other area for that matter besides my arm/leg hair and thumb when feeling the edge.

It can be done, but the handle shape is a problem- too wide to allow shaving with about half the blade.

I've shaven with my Douk-Douk before, but considering I have barbed wire for a beard, this isn't the best option.

Im shaved with my No 8 and if you look few posts back on the photo you will see that I sharpened it with no pro equipment and it still is a close shave. But I havent ever used a straight razor so I dont really notice the handle as something bad, I just accepted it as thats the way it is. But its true that I cant use half of the blade for most places on my face.
But that got me thinking, that for carving and most light camping tasks you only need about a half of your blade sou you can sharpen your knife with a steeper angle from point to about half the length, maybe even less and the rest can be blunter for wood working. And you have your self a nice razor and still a usable knife :D

No cuts or scars either :D

*skills ( with an s )

Dude, of course I know that plural of skill is skills, but when someone have really mad skills in something than it becomes skillz, just as if you dominate too hard, you pwn :D

But I have shaved, and it was first time I shaved with a knife + I have never before shaved fit a straight razor either and I only got one cut, because I moved my hand a little.
I admire and prize skill, thats why I like bow but not so much crossbows, there is no skill involved in shooting a crossbow, its the same as shooting a gun.

Ok, now after my second shave and all that "wow, Im shaving with a knife" actor gone, I must frankly say I will not do it on a regular basis.
It is too rough shave, because I dont want to grind the blade down too much, and even with my opinel being the knife I have stropped the sharpest, it still isnt the same as with straight razor.
Not taking to account the handle, because I can maneuver around my face with it, and even the very small shaving part of the knife I still am not recommending it just because you would have to regrind the blade to the point it wouldnt be knife anymore, but just a knife shaped razor.
Utility edge just doesnt do the job, because you have to put a lot (well, considering that it should be effortless) of pressure behind the blade, so even with 30 000 grit stone and ultra fine diamond compound, you would still have just insanely sharp knife unless you put on very steep angle on the blade and that would be too difficult to maintain.

I have a few times just for kicks and to see if I can do it, but not since I dropped my knife while shaving. I did a little jig to get my feet out of the way, looked up, and there was a nice little gash on my stomach where it had hit me on the way down. That was one time I was thankful I had a gut, 'cause it was on a straight-line to you know what...

Nah!!! My knives ARE scary, arm-shaving sharp but for shaving I prefer HOT lather and a Gillette Fusion.

I tried it once.
Used to use a straight razor regularly, so I thought "hey, how different can it be?" I used the spey blade on a carbon steel Trapper pattern pocket knife. I'd just finished stropping it to arm-hair-popping-sharp, and went to town on my face. My whiskers were maybe 1/8" long at that point... and MAN, it was NOT like shaving an arm, that's for sure. Arm hair tends to be much finer, and leaps right out of the way, while my coarse face hair really put up a struggle. Didn't want to obey the blade.
It worked, but it wasn't quite pleasant.
I think I could probably get used to it, if regular razors were no longer available. Learning to shave with a straight razor also requires a period of learning & adjustment.
