I just saw that Muy Tai fighting movies Ong-Bak, and I really enjoyed it. Most everyone who has seen it also really liked it.
And I also really liked Sky-high. It's pretty funny if you're into superhero movies, but don't expect too much, it is mean for younger viewers and stays light-hearted throughout the movie, but it doesn't forget it's adult audience either. This isn't X-men, it's more like the series saved by the bell with superpowers thrown in.

Here are some I've enjoyed:

The Station Agent - Tough to describe, but one of the best dramas I've seen in a long time. The main character is a dwarf named Finbar, the genetic kind, not the mythical kind. He works in a model train shop and has the same enthusiasm for trains that we have for knives. When the shop owner dies, Finbar moves to an abandoned train station. The whole movie is just his interaction with various other people. Not an action movie, and pretty slow-paced, but really well done. Manages to be "feel good" without being syrupy sweet.

Touching the Void - Based on a true survival story of a mountain climbing accident. Recreation by actors, interspersed with interviews of the people involved.

Himalaya - Enjoyable story shot on location, with all characters played by native peoples. The cinematography was spectacular also, as you would expect. Subtitled.

Citizen X - Serial murder investigation in Soviet-era Russia.

"The Million Dollar Baby" is the last thing I've rented. Not outstanding, but pretty good.

Saw the Interpreter with Nicole Kidman a few nights ago. Thought it was pretty good.

I rented Mr. & Mrs. Smith a couple of weeks ago; mostly to ogle Ms. Jolie...

Pretty good, a lightweight "screwball" comedy with bullets.

We're off to see Kong tomorrow.

I agree... Ong Bak was good.
Then there is Kitamura's "Sky High" which I like (Japanese with English subs)

Man, I really liked it up until the last fight. After that, it was just depressing.

War of the worlds is pretty good. Watched an older movie at a friends house the other day, Waking Ned Devine. It was really good. Ash Wednesday was pretty good, Edward Burns directed and stared. I bought the Victory At Sea collection, Been watching that everynight.

Cinderella Man. Good movie. Russell Crowe good as always. Still don't get the appeal of Renee Zellweger. Made me appreciate what my grandparents had to go through in the Great Depression.

Serenity is really good if you like sci fi. Best sci fi flick in years in fact. Shame it didn't do better at the box office.

Ong Bak was friggin sweet. I'm convinced that he was killing his stunt men for real. If he and Chuck Norris should simoultaneously roundhouse kick each other, the world would explode in a fiery conflaguration.

I couldn't agree more. It was seriously depressing.

I've bought several dvd's lately and the brit drama Hustle was a good one. Only 6 episodes in a series but they were awesome.

I also bought The Descent. Watched it at the cinemas and was blown away so bought the DVD.

Also bought ong bak 'cos the first time i saw it was in malaysia and the subtitling was bad. I think Ong bak is the best martial arts movie in the past 10 years. Can't think of anything else better at the moment.

.

Serenity is one of the best movies I've seen in years, I bought the Firefly series set last month, and a friend loaned me his copy of Serenity while I am waiting for mine to come in the mail. I just bought used copies of Once Upon a Time in Mexico and the new War of the Worlds.

If anyone has seen the Firefly series, Jayne had a machine gun, looked like a souped up M4, that he called Vera. In the ending battle scene of Serenity, he didn't have Vera, but he did have her for their robbery in the beginning of the movie. What happened to it?

March of the Penguins. The emperor penguin has my vote for toughest animal on the face of the earth by a wide margin.
I watched In the Heat of the Night with Sidney Poitier the other night. Excellent like everything else he does. Recently watched We Were Soldiers again.
Not exactly movies but I saw season 1 of Arrested Development when my brother rented it. Really funny. Also on a friend's recommendation I rented Firefly the complete series. Absolutely hilarious. Favorite episode has to be Jaynestown. Looking forward to seeing Serenity.

Can't think of anything else off hand.

You are right on with that review. I could not believe that a movie could turn out so dark and depressing from such a good start. Work hard, follow your dream, take a cheap shot, beg for assisted suicide. I had to up my dosage after that.

Well, I tried not to give away the ending, but yeah, I'm with you 100%. At least the fight scenes were really good.

Now, was the Max Baer that played on Beveryly Hillbillies the son of the fighter?

I'm pretty sure you are correct, sir.
