Anyone rent any good movies lately?

I dunno, I expected more violence, and no love story.I love a god shoot 'em up movie.

Serenity, just rented it the other day and loved it. has good story line, is not your typical "space" story.

Crash: Very good movie if you like drama and irony.

Stealth: It was just "okay".

Serenity: Very good movie, and the villian is excellent--I hope to see him in other movies.

The Village: I have avoided this one for a long time because it got such mixed reviews and I hated "Signs". But I actually enjoyed it and I think it was well done overall.

Madagascar: It was funny, but the Penguin Christmas Caper is awesome!

I'm waiting for Saw II to come out on video...

Allen.

Not to rent yet, but I recommend "Rumor Has It" very highly. While Kevin Costner isn't much as a dramatic actor, he is great in comedies and he is a perfect foil for Shirley MacLaine. The conceit behind the story is that the book and hte movie, "The Graduate" were a true story with only the names changed. In the current film, Shirley MacLaine plays the "Mr. Robinson" role and Costner takes Dustin Hoffman's role. Jennifer Anniston ia MacLaine's grandaughter and decides to hunt up Costner and find out for herself about the story. MacLaine is just acidic and funnier than I have seen in ages and Costner makes a very good straight man.

On the other hand, I have yet to figure "Syriana" out. My wife liked it, but there were just too damned many people and plots running in and out too damned quickly to keep track of them, so it became a jumbled blur for me. Perhaps that is what Clooney, the director, was seeking.

four brothers -wasnt bad

great raid-want my money back

wedding crashers-pretty darn good

going to watch serenity tonight-

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. The animation isn't quite as good as the original movie but the storylines are very good and you get to know the characters better. For Christmas I got the rest of season one and the first two discs of season two. I highly recommend it.

Agreed on Serenity - and yes, I'm trying to track down Firefly series DVD's:)

Sin City was also one that I enjoyed when it first came out - I went out and bought the new extended one - Disc 2 (haven't seen all of it yet) has each of the 4 stories as separate chapters and fills in with a bit more background. It also comes with a comic book which I haven't had time to peruse yet:)

Into the Blue - OK, better than what the reviews said, but nothing memorable except Jessica Alba:)

Aeon Flux - animated series - haven't seen all the episodes yet - but the ones I've watch so far - the re-mastering and sound is very good. You do have to pay attention, plot wise, though - to me, you sorta had to "read between the lines" a bit. Maybe the later episodes will fill in a bit. I got this sort of as a pre-cursor to Aeon Flux that just hit the theatres. I'm not a movie goer, so when it comes out on DVD......:)

Hope helps - gord

Who? Wasnt he the kid from Good Burger?
No, he's the guy from hero movies like The Patriot, Mad Max, ummm...ring any bells to you? The Good Burger-I bet that's a XXX movie.

Tonight I watched a movie that I thought was very good: The Great Raid

The Great Raid is based on the true WWII story of the 6th Ranger Battalion and Philippine guerillas who undertake a daring mission to rescue American POWs from the notorious Cabanatuan prison camp.

If you like WWII movies you should watch this one.

HUGE Thumbs Up for Broken Flowers. Four-and-a-half or five stars out of five. Best movie I've seen in months, perhaps a year. Jim Jarmuch really knows how to end, or not end, a story. Bill Murray was outstanding.

I liked:
House of Flying Daggers,
Cowboy Bebop(the movie and the series) your warned, its Anime, Good fight scenes
SuperTroopers(OMG I thought I was gonna die laughing, worth buying)
Batman Begins-suprised that it was good, just not great-rent it
Thats what I can think of off the top of my head.

I concur. An excellent film.

Saw the Brothers Grimm. Really goofy story, an entertaining movie though. Liked some nice shots of Monica Bellucci. The horse scene was a little bit of a surprise. Good enough to be a rental, but nothing to own. Surprisingly, the axe used reminded me of a high dollar custom job I saw in Blade magazine, might have been the one from the actual movie.

I don't recall seeing The Third Man, but Wells' Touch of Evil was pretty good, and of course Citizen Kane.

Carol Reed was the guy who directed it, a screenplay by Graham Green.
