Anyone Wanna do the Grand Canyon

Preliminarily, I think Gerberblades and I will carpool up and share a room. If you could make a reservation for us, that would be great...or if you could PM me the hotel info, I can do it too. I'm not sure what vehicle we will be bringing yet. I can drive mine, but I won't have a plate for you until next week. Do you need anything else from us right away before you take off?

Hey folks, the trip dates are Nov. 3 - Nov. 7, not October. I've been saying the first week in Nov. all along but got my wires crossed on the itinerary post.

I'm leaving today for a 2 - 3 week vacation in Texas and will be checking in here occasionally on my laptop. Still need to know the State/Lic # of second vehicle at GC to be driven by "on the edge".

Also need to know if Mr. & Mrs. HD will be able to make the trip this year.

As soon as I have this info I will put our application in the mail where ever I am at the time. In order to ensure success, I will also allow the week before and the week after our preferred time as possible second and third choice options.

Hi folks. I'm currently visiting my brother in San Antonio and using his computer. Got the license # from on the edge and was wondering how things are going with you HD. Sure hope you and the missus can join us at the GC. I'll be in SA another day, then it's off to see my son in Houston. I'll check back in here periodically.

Okay folks, the party is set. "On the edge", "Gerber Blades" and I will trek the Grand Canyon from Nov. 4 to Nov. 6 this year. Hope the missus recovers quickly HD, and that the two of you can join us next year.

The permit request was faxed to the Park Service this afternoon. I'll have the results within three weeks. Based on the reservations data I've seen there is little doubt our application will be successful.

NOTICE:

Gerberblades had to cancel out on the Grand Canyon trek because he got a new job in Idaho. I've already submitted the permit request for a group of three, so we've got room for one more trekker. Let me know if anyone else is interested in joining on_the_edge and I for this spectacular backpacking trip.
 
Sorry it took so long to get back to you. After all the years in the Navy working in the most dangerous fields out there, then quite a few years of construction work, I tripped on a man hole cover and broke the right foot in about ten places. I didn't know it was broken at first and walked on it for a couple weeks before it became apparent that it was not just a sprain. I am now missing a whole row of bones in the middle of the foot. I can walk fairly well but my balance is not all that good and I really need to use a walking stick to be sure I don't tip over when I am trying to stand still. When I walk I am pretty steady. Strange things happen in the real world.:grumpy: Before this all happened, I just missed the rocket scientist of the year award.

It took over a year before I took a step on it. I am kinda limited to boat or canoe camping or maybe trail rides. OH I can still swim.:D
 
Dang, that's a piece of bad luck udt. Someone ought to organize a float trip that might accommodate more people. I'd like to do that myself someday.

I'll bring back plenty of pictures from the terrestrial route. :thumbup:
