Anyone wear a kilt?

Being of Scottish heritage, the movie "Braveheart" made me want to grow my hair long, and buy a kilt and a claymore. I never got the kilt or claymore, but I did grow my hair long for a few years. But, since it made me look like a dirtbag, I went back to my normal cut (some guys look good with long hair. I'm not one of those guys.). I still want a kilt and a claymore though...

C'mon , Kilts ?! Are you serious ?

i mean Im sure they have theyre up sides ( :P) but theres a reason most people wear a trouser variant in day to day life. They are just more practical .
Whats next tactical greek soldiers outfits ? (the ones like a tutu with pompoms ) Tartan manbags ? werent the original kilts more like a toga ? why not go all the way and wear a toga type kilt ? Isnt that a 'real' kilt , like how they were originally ? The whole kilt with dinner jacket look makes me wanna puke . (cue proclaimers track )
Wasp fly up the kilt , no thanks , bull ant up the kilt no thanks , gust of wind ,,, ride horse , motorcycle in a kilt ??
How bout one of those really big floppy french mountain troop berets to complete the look ?
Until questions like these are adressed wearing a kilt is a cry for attention as far as I can see.

Very troll like post.

I want a kilt for the comfort of wearing one around the house and on the trail.

If it's a cry for attention then what do you care. Like your post wasn't a cry for attention? LOL

Then do so. (if you cant handle some gentle ribbing )
I think you'll find wearing a Kilt is much like a Mohawke style haircut. It will attract lots of positive & negative attention - then others will be indifferent. I am indifferent , but I do think the world wood be poorer , if individuals didnt experiment with different garments ( or hairstyles).
Good luck with your Kilt. A nice walking cane might be neat to saunter around with.
What do you think of the Fustanella?

must agree with bigbadboom. do what is right for you. go ahead and invest in one and experiment with wearing it and see how you like it and how functional it is for you.
although female, I do believe that clothing should be both comfortable and functional for the wearer.
and men in kilts are sexy.

I'll revive an old thread :) I took my REI dividend (and 20% off coupon) and purchased a Mountain Hardwear Elkommando kilt

http://www.mountainhardwear.com/Men's-Elkommando™-Kilt/OM3417,default,pd.html

met a gent last year on the CDT, my wife and I were out for a 4 day hike- he was on his way in completing the entire route (Mexico to Canada!)- anywho he was wearing a Elkommando and said that it performed flawlessly and he wouldn't trade it for the world. the material is rugged, but still lightweight- has a good DWR finish on it and being a kilt, breathes well :) has really roomy cargo pockets and it comes with it's own belt

looks like it gives you a lot more freedom of movement vs shorts or pants, we'll see :D

I play w/ a local Pipe & Drum band & we have our uniform kilts which are seriously heavy wool mothers & are warm in the winter, but can be a drag in a July 4th parade.
I also have 3 others (Utilikilt, Amerikilt, & a custom) that I wear from time to time while out. I also work part time in a bar & wear one to work when the mood strikes me. The ladies seem to like it. If you've ever attended a beer festival in a kilt, then the issue of "why" will no longer be a question.
As for the skivvies question, Full Regimental Dress is the only way to go.

Too light. Instead prefer something that will deflect a spilled stout & still let me hang a sporran w/ a flask inside. A kilt w/ a rigger's belt will also support a CCW holster (but not @ the beer fest for 1,000's of obvious reasons). And I don't wear pompoms on my boots. (not that there is anything wrong with that...)

I have many times thought of trying out a kilt, but you really have to have a lot of not care in you to pull it off. I just don't know if I could do it. :)

I think the MOST practical of all "outfits" is the chinese pajama outfits you see them wearing in all the movies (like jet li in lethal weapon 4). I don't know what those matching top and bottom sets are called but they seem to have them from casual laborer all the way up to dressy. I think that is defeinitley the way to go. as somebody stuck wearing the signs of bondage (shirt and tie) almost every day I'd LOVE the option of a nice black and white set of PJ's that looked classy.

I would love one of those kung fu pj rigs if I could get the sleeves & cuffs to whip crack every time I move like they do in the cheap chopsocky films.

The silk pajamas do look like they would be very comfortable, breathable, and light. With some good pockets, they would be great. But I am not sure how durable the silk would be. I guess if your not crawling in dirt and rocks, they should hold up reasonably well.
The Kilt is cool. I would not be embarrassed to wear one.

Hahaha!! I like kilts....and I will wear underware under them. No danglies!

5-11 made up as a joke a video of an online sales ad for the 5-11 tactical kilt....guess what? They now are making them on a select basis because they had so many people bugging them about them. They are lightweight and have a coating for spills as well as cargo pockets with different slots inside that can be changed out. I have 2 pairs on order at $59 each. One black, one OD.....my wife is gonna be pissed! lol...

Kilts are cool looking, but I guess they are a cultural exclusive thing. I would think a Scottish man would not look good dressed as a charro.:p

Nah Ed, it's just pure comfort when it's too hot to wear pants.

And there isn't anything like standing over an AC vent wearing a kilt on a hot day.

I haven't had a chance to really give it a go yet (other than model it for my wife :)), shouldn't be much longer and I'll be giving it a go in the hills

mine is tight w/ the "modesty" snaps, but fits pretty good w/ out doing those up
