anything and everything about knives (free talk)

Apparently the OP at one point had two threads where he invited participants to freely talk about knives. One was just a general conversation thread (which he kicked off by asking about Gerber knives), and the second one was an invitation to "Rant" about knives. Apparently a desire to create a forum within a forum. Since pretty much the entire forum is a place to freely talk about knives (while following the forum rules of course), it may seem redundant.

The two threads were merged into one, which may have caused some confusion.

The OP also has said that he has worked in the retail knife business in some capacity at a Canadian retail knife store chain named "House of Knives" for 6 years and would like to share his knowledge gained during that time with us all.

I think that sums it up so far, if you are coming in late to the show. There's fresh popcorn in the lobby.

thanks jc57 (jhon), for clearing that up:thumbup:

if you didint want to look like a jerk you should have posted that comment in a more respective manner, however some newer members get their threads removed because they put them in the wrong catygory but this way it dosint matter becuase you can talk about any knife topic in this thread.
FYI: if you dont find this thread necesarry dont post your so called oppinion on it.
thanks

My so called opinion? It either is, or it isn't, and in this case, it definitely was my opinion that you came in trying to act like you're some expert on knives. It's clear to me now that you aren't. Also? As a member of this board, I've the same rights as you have to post, so I'll post in whatever thread I'd like. Six years, I actually laughed at that. Do you know how long some of us have been around knives? Hint: longer than six years. I would be one of those people.

But oddly, I haven't joined the board, started an unnecessary thread and acted like (claps hands) "OK gang!! I'm an expert, ask me questions! I totally know everything about knives, I'm a six year expert!"

I haven't done that, because that would be asinine.

Edit: Also, you're free to think I'm a jerk. Frankly, I hold the same opinion for people who attempt to set themselves up as some sort of knowledgeable authority without any credentials or proof of said knowledge. You worked in a knife shop? Care to take a guess how many knife shops I've been in where the employees there have no idea about anything? "Yeah, that knife is actually made of this special steel, it'll cut through a brick!!" (Actually overheard by a salesgoon trying to sell a clueless customer on some Chinese-made Buck with a tanto blade).

Show of hands, who's been to a car dealership where a sales guy told you he was the expert on the car you were trying to buy and then told you a bunch of incorrect information. You'll need to try a bit harder than that, friend. Merry Christmas!

That's really funny. :D:D

Doing what with the knives...I wonder.

gerber= in my opinion are poor quality. Have the covert auto. Definitely not too happy quality wise. Poor release and locking mechanism. Massive blade play. Space between the two halves. Have had it dismantled and put it back together, just a poor auto system. A sog which I have seems far better quality than gerber as a comparison of similar priced autos.

I haven't been buying good knives for 6 years, but I can still tell you that Frost and Gerbers aren't good.
(I've been buying quality for about 3 years)

i believe this thread is to talk about anything knife related not speculating wether or not someone has experiance with knives
p.s i work at house of knives in which case i need to know what im talking about, plus that statement was to start the thread off so peaple would feel obliged to ask me a question. again this thread is for knife related talk if you have an oppion to vent go to a diffrent forum

I'm sorry, you might want to try again.... ;)

Capitalization and punctuation are your friends.... and the return key....

I gave up on Gerber just before and after Fiskars bought them out.... older ones are hit and miss. Used to be a great name in cutlery.

Kinda too bad Gerber discontinued their spelling, punctuation, diction and syntax models; they were all quite good. Their metaphor blades cut through so many typos and emotionally charged errors that they made even the poorest so-called opinions and snarky comments look as if they were carved from the finest unobtanium by a champion.

I must say, that was pretty funny. Now back to my coffee.

The China/Taiwan relationship could take up an entire forum on its' own! The Chinese I have known will quickly tell you Taiwan is a part of China (a territory). The Taiwanese would tell you they are not.
The member Orixa is in Hong Kong, which is a special administrative region (which is governed differently than mainland). I have no idea how most of the people in Hong Kong view Taiwan.
I'm not sure if he was implying was that Taiwan was an independent state or that as a territory it isn't technically a part of 'China'.

Isn't international politics fun?

Not in this particular forum. rolleyes:

Keep the politics in the political forum. I do not warn people who feel it is necessary to post politically here. There is a very clear warning not to do so stuck at the top of this forum stating that politics here will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

This thread has run it's course and is locked.
