Anything 'better' out there than a Delica?

If the Salt wasn't pinned construction, I might agree with you
I consider the pinned construction another great reason to choose the Salt over the Delica...

I've never had any problems with a pinned knife.
Unfortunately, I can't say the same about my screw constructed knives....

The terms "stripped screw", "missing screw", and "Loc-Tite" come to mind. :o

I agree, although the trend seems to be the opposite. I just like the carefreeness (word?) of the pin when it's well made.

Thanks for all the replies so far.

I've had a few Benchmades before and the 940 was my favorite. We do have a mini-Grip in the house; it's my gf's choice for her folding knife.

The reason I'm considering a Delica again is because I'd prefer to have it on rather than my lg. Seb. The summer season's kicking in - that means more travel out of state. Reasons for Delica are simple: loss, theft, confiscation, ease of replacement (at $40 street price).

Thanks.

The RAM is my most "fun" knife- that flipper and lock combination rocks! It's not my EDC because its just too hard to get out of my pocket. A set of scales from firebert may fix that one of these days.

The Buck Vantage is an excellent knife, especially for the price. I'm in the process of torture testing an Avid and it has held up amazingly well. I think I'm confused though- first you were talking about size/legality issues and wanting to stay close to Delica length and now you're talking about a replacement for a large Seb?

Yes, the Delica 3 :)

I think some of the newer Kershaw offerings give the Delica a run for the money. I'm very impressed with the Kershaw Blitz (Nerve?) for a $20+ something knife this comes sharp, slices through everything, 8Cr13MoV steel, great ergos, locks up tight, RJ Martin design. Want better steel? Look at the Kershaw Barrage, a slimmed down Blur, sort of, with a pointier blade, 14C28 steel, rubber inserts, and (on mine anyway) a black pocket clip. Bought both knives for less than a Delica.

For sheer cutting and slicing prowess I've also been impressed with a rarely-talked about knife, the older AUS 8 Beretta Airweights. Picked one up for $28 out the door at a local gear shop, action was a little stiff but solid lockup, great edge, a real sleeper in my opinion.

The delica is a good little knife but I prefer something that opens smoother. Pinned spydercos develope play after a short time and have no way to adjust it

Actually, there is a way, you can cover the pin and lightly tap it with a mallet. Put the knife on a towel or something on the counter and tap the pin. That should take care of any play, though I've never really seen much play in Delicas even with hard use. I've seen more play in Natives.

Nope, I can't find anything better than the Delica. I try other knives, but in the end, I always end up coming back to the good old D4.

Once it breaks in, the D4 is VERY smooth. I have a ZDP D4 that I've been opening and closing for 3 months now, and it's almost as smooth as my Caly 3.

For a hard use knife i like my saber grind delica 4, i much prefer it over the full flat grind delica which i also have. The FFG delica seems a bit fragile, it's so darn thin it feels like you could bend the blade with your fingers. I also have the Buck Vantage pro, it's a great knife, but i'd choose the delica over it, it's seems like the saber grind of the delica will take more than the hallow grind of the Vantage, the Vantage Pro is a helluva value though.

Thanks for your input. I'm debating between the saber grind and full flat (grey handle). Now that you've mentioned the fact that the FFG feels thin and fragile, I'm questioning it (since it's the one I was leaning toward getting).

The Deleca is way to cheap to gain much favor on this board. Not much snob appeal with a knife under 100.00;)

However, I think it a a great knife for the money.

I wish they would make them black. I hate those pastel colors.:barf:

Just picked up a black Delica. Can't put it down. Wanted a pink one for my GF, but no longer available. ;)

Anything better? Personal decision. I love my Benchmades, but they are pricier.

Just picked up a sage green G-10 handle Delica with FFG blade... what a wonderful knife! Screams quality. Screwed construction. Currently my EDC until something else bumps it.

The Delica is a great choice if you like hole openers and lock backs.

However, my Delicas don't get much pocket time as I prefer a thumb-studded Benchmade Mini Grip variant for day-to-day use and a Pacific Salt for the beach.

FFG Delica's are very nice, hard to beat them without investing twice that much in another Spyderco. Leafstorm, Caly3, Sage can compeare FFG Delica but are so much more expensive.
