My parents have always had saints or neufs, and once they went 'small' and got a golden. Looking at getting one for myself in the near to mid future. Probably going to go for a Newfoundland and water train it.

I got one teen aged boy and a second only two year behind him... I don't need to try and feed a dog the size of a horse in addition to that! Of course the Lab and the English Setter have no problem consuming most everything that isnt locked up or nailed down.

I tend to prefer bigger dogs...i would like to have a great dane, do they slobber much Tripton?

dinozzo,

I beg to differ on your opinion on the intellgence of a dachshund.

My wife and I have 3, 2 males and a female. The oldest one has just turned 12 years old.

He has devised a way to steal bones from our highly trained shutzhund III german shepherds. (Before they had passed.)

He would run to the sliding glass door and give the bark that announces someone is at the door, when the shepherds would run to the door to investigate, the dachshund would run back to where the shepherds had dropped their bones and steal them. The shepherds would go back to where they left their bones and be scratching their heads going "where did I leave that bone?"

We would get a good laugh out of that one, because the shepherds never quite caught on.

I could go on and on. The dachshund is a fantastic dog.

Good luck and enjoy yours.

Our dashound was very smart he actually saved our family of 4 lives. We spent the night in a old motel in the winter. The space heater was not vented and if not for Fritz we would all be dead. He would not settle down in the room and after a few hours of sleep he woke up my mom who went to let him out to go to the bathroom when the cold air hit her she passed out in the door way. Then after some time she woke up and fell across the foot of the bed waking my dad who had a very bad headache then putting 2+2 woke us up and we drove to our grandparents house we were all sick with headaches for days. My dad call the motel and also "made a stop " on our way back home.
