I'm an idiot, just got a brand new XM-18, with the working finish..and while adjusting the pivot, since I didn't have the right tool..I improvised, and noticed I scratched the he'll out of the frame side near the pivot. Damnit. Yes, it's a user. Still..scratches the first day? Anything I can do? Tried some Windex, did nothing..
Thanks...

Short of re-stonewashing the scale I don't know of anything that will take those out.

Sometimes for users, though, the little things like that allow me to let go of the newness of the knife and get to using it. Personally I wouldn't fuss with it too much.

After literally decades of fretting over things like this (and I've done this sort of thing a lot!) I finally learned that trying to fix little things like this usually just makes them worse. Best to just let it go and enjoy the knife. (And what I gorgeous knife it is!)

What? I couldn't hear you. You said it came like that right out of the package? I guess you should send it back for one in good condition.

It's long story, but this knife was actually one of Rick's personal knives. Long story how and why he gave it to me, lol. I'll say this though, Rick Hinderer is awesome to his customers!

That little scratch made it your knife. You just made yourself a story to tell when you show it off.:p

Try not to worry about it. That’s nice blade when you start using it you won’t even notice.

Kind of lucky it happened as soon as it did, if you think about it. If you really intend it to be a user then scratches like that are going to happen at some point. If you "fixed" the scratches you might go back to babying it and not really use it until the inevitable happens again.

Enjoy using your knife and give it some more character. ;)

Scratch up the rest of the titanium and then it will all look the same! I know it sucks, but soon you will add more scratches to it. My CRK umnumzaan literally has a gouge in the titanium frame, the pivot and a messed up thumbstud plus other assorted scratches. Did it suck? Yep! But then I figured I might as well use it hard and haven't looked back
