Anything I can do about these scratches?

“This is a user” and “Omg, there’s scratches!” does not belong in the same sentence or even the same paragraph when talking about a knife.

Yeah I really don't follow your logic. Just because it is going to be something you use doesn't mean you aren't disappointed when you scratch it all up the first day you own it...not to mention deducting from further value of the knife should you ever decide to part with it.

I'm an idiot, just got a brand new XM-18, with the working finish..and while adjusting the pivot, since I didn't have the right tool..I improvised, and noticed I scratched the he'll out of the frame side near the pivot. Damnit. Yes, it's a user. Still..scratches the first day? Anything I can do? Tried some Windex, did nothing..
Thanks...

Too bad, but I would just use it.

If you don’t follow the logic of what a “user” means, then you should safe queen all of them and not touch them. Otherwise, if you declare something a user, threads like this becomes an example of an oxymoronic statement; you cannot have a user without scratches.

So yes, there is a lot of logic in my original post; the more you handle it, use it, fondle it, the more you risk scratching it. Just man up and put it to heavy use. Stop worrying about a scratch.

Don't worry. Eventually, it'll have a lot of character from all the scratches, dings, and general wear that it shows. I can't speak for Mr. Hinderer, but I imagine he'd tell you to put that cutter to good use.

I installed brand-new Grimsmo scales on a brand-new Spyderco Manix II one afternoon... and that night I dropped it on my [concrete] garage floor. Two days later I knocked it off my workbench - onto the floor again. :(

It has been one of my best users over the last several years, and it shows it.

Character marks. Use it, add to it, make it your own with every mark a story to tell.

It appears your knife may be useless now. I'll tell you what, I'll save you lots of trouble and take the whole mess off your hands FOR NOTHING. :p

Since it’s a HUGE issue to the OP, I would gladly support the removal of the offending knife as well. My home will be a suitable place for disposal where I will put it to hard dirty use in the woods by the wet running river full of wet sand.

You'll get worse marks than that from normal wear and tear, use, etc. I'd just enjoy it and use the crap out of it!

just got a brand new XM-18, ...I scratched the he'll out of the frame side near the pivot. Damnit....scratches the first day? Anything I can do?

A marred stonewashed surface ?
It has to go back in a tumbler...
Either way one would have to take the knife apart
In order to rework the affected part in entirety.
The great thing now, is that one can effectively
Choose the type of preferred finishing;
From something simple like applying a coat of paint
To something more complicated which requires tools.
One could wire brush, media blast a finishing, dull it in an acid
or go back to stonewashing...
It's would take time and effort.
You get the picture!
Lots of ideas in you tube...

Just use it. Scratches on a knife are like memories. Get after it. Prove to all who see it that it's not just pocket jewelry!

Thanks guys, yeah..I was able to get most of them out, wasn't too bad. I want my first battle scars to be at least something worth while, not using the wrong tool for the job, lmao.
