Apology

Jeez, does everything have to be discussed to death? CA said he was sorry, I'm sure it wasn't easy to do.

Give the guy a break and let it go.

Cougar,
I wasn't referring to you, except when I referred to you directly. When I said you have style, that is exactly what I meant. My other comment (to Spark) was more in general and in jest, meant only to lighten things up. I love the Forums, this doesn't have to become the Magic Kingdom, our skins need to be thicker than that.

If you can't see any difference between the author editing a post (or asking the moderators to do it for him if the software won't let him do it himself) and some random member deleting other members' posts ... I don't know how I can explain it to you.... Maybe the word "delete" is causing confusion, though -- I explained above I wanted to use the edit function to delete the text of the post and replace it with a note explaining that so the replies wouldn't be left hanging inexplicably, but maybe that explanation didn't sink in.... (I wouldn't blame anybody if they didn't get that; not all of us have time to pore over everything.)

James Mattis found a work-around for the software problem, though; he quoted all the relevant posts from the old thread in his post starting the "rewind" thread.

I think the controversy going on in the "bad posts and apologies are overdone" thread probably has little to do with me, but whether it has anything to do with me or not I think I'll just sit that one out....

I'm working on fulfilling my promise to write a lot of good posts now.

Cougar,

As I mentioned in our private e-mail exchange, that's the first thread I've ever locked (moving with a lock is different as it allows continued posting in a more appropriate forum area).

I, like James, prefer not to lock. I think the way I expressed it was that I much prefer folks to clean up their messes (and that of their dogs

)! I'm glad James re-initialized the original thread Scarman started. I learned a trick there too.

You just had a bad poster's day as that particular post was as different from your normal stuff as night is to day. But when the object of your critique elected to flame back, it became apparent things could degenerate quickly. Given the rules were broken I figured a lock was in order. Well in the future I'll try to see that sufficient time is afforded so that folks can indeed clean up their own messes

! Gotta look at the bright side here. I learned something too!

Um ... what private email exchange? I haven't received any email from you, Bald1....

I hope it's clear I am not complaining about any of the moderators' actions. It's easy to see why the thread was locked, and it's back on track now.

Cougar,

My error.... e-mail was with two other gents about a similar situation. No problem.
