Apparently I hit a nerve ...

Again you go on at length about the laws themselves and your opinion of them. Nothing wrong with that, in the right forum, in the right context, and in the right tone. But you use antagonistic rhetoric which is insulting to the people you address and destructive of the discussion itself, as emotional reactions to your domineering attitude turn the discussion away from substance and into personality.

Each forum or group of forums here have their own style. In Whine & Cheese and the Cove, language and attitudes are allowed which don't work in the open discussion forums where the topics are technical. You don't get to shout out the same words at a business meeting that you did at a ball game the day before.

Again, you are missing the point. It isn't as much about the laws as it is about some poster's lethargy regarding the laws. I repeat:

"The gist of the problem is that some posters seem so cavalier about their freedoms and are so quick to scream 'illegal', and seem do it with such glee. Like they discovered something that no else knew and they want to be the first to tell. I guess it is ok as long as they have theirs, screw the other guy."

And:

"I guess I was mistaken when I assumed (we know what that means) that most collectors and users were on the same page relative to personal freedoms. I thought for sure in the Randall forum on this site most if not all would be of that mindset."

The attitudes of some came to light in the Randall forums so that is where I addressed it. This all started with a guy making a statement. He was asked to back it up and realized he made a mistake. No worries. Problem is, he wanted to switch gears if you will and go to another forum with the secret handshake and berate me using profanity for no real reason. Pretty weak. Then other 'regulars' pile on apparently in some form of gang mentality as though this really means something?

An open letter to OICU812:

Alright, it's taken me a while to get in the right head-space to say this, but I think I'm there right now, so let's have a go at it.

Where oh where did you go wrong? Let's see now. You've literally stomped all over the Randall knives forum, in the process managing to offend just about everyone there at one point or another. Yes, I can give you examples if you insist. Somehow, I don't think you'll insist, because you know it's true.

Since you clearly haven't figured it out by now, I suppose I need to clue you in about the Randall forum. Most, if not all, of the heavy hitters there are very well-established, mature (sure, "old" if it makes you feel better) professionals who have many, many thousands of dollars' worth of knives in their collections. I'm pushing $50K right now, and I know Sheldon and Ken Lunde make me look like an amateur.

And then you come in, crapping all over everybody there, and being nothing but adversarial to people who have written books on the subject, and you wonder why people might possibly have a problem with you.

Gee, that's a tough one.

Randall collectors are part of a fraternity. We've all got unthinkable quantities of money invested in something that's the love of our life. An expensive love. I'm not talking that $350 model 14 you might own; I'm thinking about doing a King Faisal set in ivory right now. It'll cost just a wee tad bit more than that.

And no, Gary Randall doesn't listen to me, but you knew that already. But yes, I do talk to him on a somewhat regular basis. If you click on my name, you'll see Dirty Water (Scott Maynard, the shop foreman) is on my friends list. Despite some fairly public butting of heads, I very much consider both Scott and Gary to be friends, and I believe they do too. Sheldon, Ken Lunde, and Perry Miller ("Spaceport") are also on that list, by the way.

So, you know, nobody's saying there's no hope for you, because we're basically pretty mellow guys and there's room for everybody here. But man, you've got to chill it out and stop being so confrontational, or you're gonna be in for a rough time of it, both on BladeForums and among Randall collectors in general.

I hope you can take this as the wake-up call it's intended to be.

'812,

If I remember correctly, you struck me as adversarial, demanding that I answer to you in fact, so I ignored your demand – that’s my prerogative. You continued with the adversarial badgering, so I put you on ignore – at that point we were done, that is, until someone quoted your BS, bypassing my ‘ignore’. So, I contacted one of the mods, asking them to ask you what your freaking problem was? That was some time ago, and I never heard back so figured you had gotten the hint.

Now, I see that you’re still being adversarial and badgering other members here, including friends and mods; WTF? Dude, at this point no one here owes you squat other than maybe a kick in the balls followed by a shove off the gang plank. If you want to argue with someone, go argue with the guy in the mirror – in the meantime, I’d strongly suggest that you stop mucking up threads with your antagonistic crap lest ye find yourself banished…

Also, while my reference book on Randall knives was deemed good enough to be sold both at the Randall shop and through several of their authorized dealers – my opinions expressed here are just that, my opinions…if you don’t agree with them, have your own contrary opinions, or can shed additional light on something posted, then by all means, please share – just don’t shout ‘prove it’ then smugly sit back waiting for a response…you’ll be waiting a long time.

CA looks pretty restrictive from this side of the river. :) Over here I can shove a switchblade in my pocket, wear a neck/boot knife, carry a concealed pistol, and go out to the desert and shoot my assault rifle using a drum magazine.....all without a license or any interference from the law. That's my definition of freedom.

I think I might have to see if I can relocate back to Tucson or Phoenix. I lived there in the 80's and I loved it. California is sucking all the life and money out of me...Florida was nice, but no jobs...

Open letter to Melvin & Samael,

Melvin -

You made a statement about Solingen 18's being more valuable than Orlando 18's. You even stated that those that would tell you differently may be wrong. I am providing the link to refresh your memory:

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=654795

I asked what do you base your opinion on. Go look for yourself. You acted as though it was below you to respond to a legitimate question from a participant here, as though your word was gospel and it was blasphemous of me to question you. I never said you were wrong or inaccurate in your assessment, I just wanted to know how you came to that conclusion.

Same with this thread about a knife you own:

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=656317

Further down the thread I asked a few questions, just read it for your self. I was most curious how you knew it was stainless steel.

Also, here you go with the personal attacks. Why do you resort to that? Kick me in the balls? I would prefer you gently cup those bad boys in your hands like a couple of nice chia pets.

Samael -

Being an attorney, I would have thought you would choose your words a bit more carefully. You professed the be an RMK enthusiast, yet went on to criticize the steel used in the blades as being inferior to what other maker's use, then as I did Melvin, I asked you what you based your opinion on.

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=687371

Then in another thread you question your 'friend' Gary's inability or failure to realize what you believe is popular or what is in demand. It was confusing to me that you would berate the shop. I can provide the links to that thread also if you need me to. So why do you have a beef with me? I didn’t make those silly statements.

So, all in all, it goes back to the same old thing. If any of us make statements, shouldn't we be compelled to back those statements (opinons) up when asked with the evidence that enabled us to get there in the first place? Isn’t that part of the discussion? I mean if you are going to say something, why wouldn’t you want to say how you came to that conclusion?

That is what Melvin has said it is all about, sharing knowledge. Well, don't be stingy, share it.

You're not listening.

Bladeforums is a community. The subforums are even more likely to be tight communities, of people who know each other and enjoy each others' company here. They share with their friends.

You come in tracking mud on the floor and shouting at everyone. The new kid on the block doesn't get to tell the good old boys how to play the game.

Just saw this thread.

OIC, you have the same "problem" as me.

It's not what you say here, it's:
1) how you say it;
2) who you say it to; and
3) who you are when you say it.

Some say you don't "get it", and that may be true. You aren't going to be treated the same as others who have been here longer. This site is big on I've been here longer than you so I'm obviously smarter" BS. This is then backed up by the famous "Read more and post less", 'cause obviously you don't know anything due to your low post count. Of course, if you have 10,000 posts on "which is better" threads, you must be a Fn genius.

You ain't gonna be treated "fairly". That's the way it is.

If you're looking for a "no shtter" about a particular subject, you ain't likely to find it here (tho sometimes you do), cause if you try and give somebody a no schiznit reply you get humped on for being too coarse and impolite. Remember that impolite is what somebody else says it is. The more you "argue", the more impolite you are, follow?

The fact is that the moderators do what they do. It ain't gonna make sense to you on occasion. Accept it, work around it and move on. To me, the site has plusses that outweigh the minuses. OBTW, you ain't gonna find the perfect woman either.

Amazin how old farts with mucho posts and a gang mentality resemble teen age boys overloaded on testosterone, ain't it?

Best thing you can take away from this thread is that if you are more eloquent and less hard hitting in your posts, they will be better received, as has been demonstrated above.

If you call the 'holes, 'holes, no matter how right you may be, it ain't gonna go over well.

Anyway, FWIW, you ain't alone. However, I don't know schiznit since I don't have many posts.

Look, If you've come here to pick a flight, we can do that. I posted something fairly tongue-in-cheek to let you know that not all of us "old farts" necessarily subscribe to your theory. As a matter of fact, I'll hold my own with you here or on any other forum of your choosing.

But if you just want to be a dick, well, there's not much hope for you wherever you go. Cuz the interwebs are kinda like life that way, dontcha know.

Just tryin to help.

In my review of the thread, I saw what could be a productive member of the community involved in a misunderstanding about how he could post.

It apeared to me that the thread had a gap between what people were trying to explain to the OP and the OP trying to explain what was going on on his? end.

So I threw in my .02.

What I've received since is the exact BS I was tryin to explain to the OP.

Wasn't tryin to pick no fight, but what I saw and still see is a bunch of pilin on without anybody tryin to *help*. My dog ain't in this fight.

And, since I didn't toe the company line, what I get is an offer to *fight* on the internet. No light shed on the subject. No attempt to find common ground. No attempt to reach a place of mutual respect.

And now I'm blind.

Well, Sammy, you and Esot can fluff each other all you want. I realize that makes you *right*, tho how one deficient argument can support another defies me, possibly because of my disability of vision. Must have missed that day in advanced logic class.

Appears feelers is hurt. As an accord, I offer internet tissue and anti-sand wipes.

If the OP returns to the thread, and wants to try and make sense of this, I'll help to the best of my obviously poor abilities. Til then, you can play with yourselves.

I lost brain cells reading the OP's posts. Back to actually reading about knives and other sharp objects I go.

Good freaken' grief! I am new here myself, not a single person has called me out on my # of posts. Talk about what you know, don't bs and be respectful of opinions other than your own. Follow that and you'll do just fine here. Potty mouth the mods, pick fights with members and show disrespect when someone disagrees with you....... well from my limited experience the guys who act like that don't last long here.
Play nice and no one will care how long you have been a member or how many posts you have.
