April contest discussion thread - PICS added

ESEE forum? there's no ESEE forum here... what you talking about? :)

I think these contests are fun. I dreaded the atlatl b/c I didn't know where to start, but after working on it it really wasn't all that bad. There is a lot to learn from these contests, and I hate i missed the january contest.

I'll bet moose already knows what the next one will be.;)

Working on it, Ethan has been jumping through hoops getting ready for PWYP, and has been uber busy. I've got contests aplenty, but I won't have time to start them for a couple of weeks. I'll see if I can get the E man on the horn and get something going.

ban him for referring to a site outside of bladeforums! infractions are in order at least :p

on a side note, that's where we can say bad things about bladite since i know he'll never register and post there to correct rumors :D - the ip address is shown on each post.

i think he's at the week long esee survival school instructing...i bet we'll have even more posters here after he demonstrates what a becker can do to those students

I know it man. I'm anxious to see the new contest and get the old one judged.

Heard it thru the grapevine... have to make a useable shelter for two using only a tactool and a toothpick. I'm out of this one guys. Don't have a tactool. :(

I'll loan you mine. It won't cut fer nothin though. Some marines got a hold of it.

What do you guys keep in the altoids tin for shelter??? I have a survival space blanket but if I put it in there nothing else will fit.

ah ha, the plot thickens. What could you put in an ASK that would give your shelter? Me thinks knowledge is smaller that most things that would go into an ASK.

Keep in mind there's several sizes of altoid's tins. There's some real big ones and some tiny ones. There isn't a Becker knife which will fit in the standard size tin. That being said, a becker Knife is required for each kit, so it would seem there is a gray area.

Standard size tin with my solution to keeping the knife with the kit. Yep P mag bag.

Ok.

Does a medium sized alice pack count as a day pack? That's the only pack that I've got. And for the intermediate kit; can I use my small gym bag type thing that I've been using for my EDC bag?? I don't have a bottle pack.

I have an altoids tin that could fit several 11's or 14's in it :D
Gonna use a regular sized one though :)

The knife doesn't have to be in the actual container, just in the kit, ie on your belt, neck, ankle, etc.

OF, that would be a perfect bag for the Sustained. As for the intermediate, as long as its smaller than your sustained, and bigger than the pocket, you're good.

The idea of the contest is to build out 3 kits that you can have with you during your outings. I spent the last week with a belt knife (it changed daily), a machete, and a Condor bottle holder most of the time. I found it refreshing to be traveling that light. Not a light as Reuben, but I was pretty light by my standards. I had an ASK in my pocket, and the bottle holder had a Nalgene bottle, cup, 2 CLIF bars, some Aquamira water drops, an inhaler and some excedrin. Never needed much else.

The next couple of Ethan's Challenges will put us in the woods, so, we thought getting our stuff together now, would be a good challenge, and a great way to take stock of our kits and skills.
