AR optics

Trijicon products all the way.

I have about 3 reflex's and would love to get one of those big reflex's
Also have a ACOG on my MSAR and a RMR I am putting on a 17.

I have a Horris Vision on my long range .308

im not looking to do any long range shooting i have a 16 inch barrel, so i think plinking is more or less what ill be doing maybe a few woodchucks here and there. im not saying i wouldnt love a trijicon but their not exactly cost effective for what im doing. i cant justify 1300+ for an optic when ill never use it to its full potential. i think for pull the triger fun i might try the vortex red dot. its cheep but it works and looks good and if i destyoy it and deside on something fancy it will make a nice tagret :D

The 2.5-10x24 is a beast of a small scope....the best at that scale, imho. I have mine mounted on my bolt .308. It's a handy system (18" barrel), and 10X is all I need to reach out. The lighted reticles really help late in the day.

KH...pics of the .338

I dont have any yet. Its new in box DPMS AR shooting .338 Federal I got year or two ago. After looking again, that 8-32 may have to find a new home.

I am also a huge fan of Nightforce scopes. But on the AR's I have they would be a waste. I really need to build a precision AR but for long range I am a bolt action guy. For my AR's I like the Aimpoint H1/T1 for size or the M4 with a 2MOA dot. I use a 3x magnifier behind mine with a Larue flip mount and it gives me a little more versatility. I like Trijicon ACOGs as well but the battery argument doesn't hold much ground in my eyes. I leave the dot on in my Aimpoints all the time and they don't die. I did have a lot of problems with Eotechs dying though and have since sold all of them. Whatever you do make sure you spend the money for a good optic. I know there are good bang for the buck optics out there but buy once, cry once. Why put a cheap optic on a pricey gun. You won't regret buying a better optic. And isn't that what we're all about here, "no regrets." :D;)

Interesting! I was thinking Lapua, originally. What is the difference between Federal / Lapua in .338? I've never had the opportunity to shoot any of the .338's

Yeah, I know...I wish:D Its a big difference. THe lapua mag is a much hotter load unfortunately:thumbup:

I use the Eotech XPS2 on both of mine. The 123 battery is everywhere and the my friends that told me to get the AA model all have 123 flashlights which I think is funny. The XPS2 is much smaller and lighter than the AA model. I like them and if I forget to turn the battery off I still have my irons and a clear screen to see through.

I have seen the Reflex sights be very hard to see in daylight if the fiber optic part gets a crack or after they are 5 years old or so. I also think they are almost like looking through sun glasses at night.

I have a Trijicon TR24G 1-4x sitting in a Larue mount on my Sig 550 that I really like, but haven't had much of a chance to play too much with it (stupid work, always getting in the way of my fun :D). Not quite as spendy as an ACOG, but close. Another choice, like mentioned is the EoTech XPS series (the EXPS series come on a QD base and sit a touch higher). I have an Aimpoint 3x magnifier also in a Larue FTS mount behind mine, which is a great combo. Easy shooting at 0-300+ yds. I also have an Aimpoint T-1, but I prefer the EoThingy myself, because of the smaller dot (1 vs 4 MOA). I hope you can find what works for you!

I tried the Eotech 512 and it is great for fast fire. Not so great for anything past 100 yrds. However, with my aging eye I needed magnification and switched to the Burris 332. 3x mag with red or green lighted reticle and a standard black reticle in the event the battery goes out. Love it and $100 less than an Eotech @ $300.

That's a good plan, I might try one on my FAL if I ever have money. I think they even come with a doubler, and should co-witness on an AR if you get the AR model. Can't go wrong for the price, and I have read many good reviews. Iron sights work just swell as well.

With the SHOT show just around the corner, you should try and organize a Busse Combat Crew ROAD TRIP!!! Then you can look at EVERYTHING the market has to offer. I'm sure there would be more than one vendor ready to trade you some optics for a little grinding ;)

The Trijicon RMR is my favorite red dot, but for most use I really prefer some type of scope, not just for better magnification, but to see better in darkened conditions. I have a Trijicon TA11 with red chevron on a 308 AR that works very well for short range 0-300. I haven't tried it beyond that, but at 3.5x magnification, it would get a bit more difficult for me further than, say 400, I think.

The US Mil. go to optic on the M4 is the Aimpoint M68CCO, civilian versions use common batteries and paired w/ a 3x magnifier (on a flipping mount) is hard to beat for plinking.

Hi Beef -

I have the Eotech XPS 2 on my AR, and it is a great sight. I wanted two-eye open sighting, and I also wanted to be able to get back from the sight rather than having to have the optic right on my eye.

I am note sure where the talk about the sights "falling off" comes from - if that means they are coming loose from the weapon, then that is a maintenance fault of the owner. If that means the sight loses it's zero, then I have not had that experience with mine (but I have not run more than 1000 rounds through my AR since I bought it last March).

The xps2 takes a single 123 battery and it is rated for 12 hours continuous use at level 12 of 20. The xps2 also has auto shut-down at a programmable 4 or 8 hours, so it will not drain a fresh battery completely if left on.

I like mine, and I got it for around $450.

T1 Micro. I have two in Larue mounts, one on my SCAR SBR and one on my Benelli m4.

EDIT- they both have been left on the same brightness setting since September or so. T1's don't need an auto-off feature, they run for a year and a half or so continuous. I don't want to have to hit an ON button if I am needing to use my rifle in an emergency.
