ARC rusting?

That is weird. I've never gotten rust on the scales like that even though I've carried one since they came out. I did one time get some rust on the inside parts but I sent it in for something else and they replaced/fixed it.
I would just send it in. they will totally fix or replace any parts that you want for free. you only have to pay shipping too get there.

My only experience with their warranty was a positive one. They swapped the tool, no questions asked.

I sent an email a few days ago. I got an automated response, so they received it. I’ll let you know what they say.
I hope they fix it. I just checked my ARC and it's fine (I keep it in my back pack), however I've had issues with rust in other Leatherman tools. Some have a sort of sandblasted finish on the inside tools that doesn't work well in humid South American summers. I've found Victorinox multitools to be much better at corrosion resistance.

Oh im sure they'll fix it. They've fixed stuff on several of their knives for me. no questions asked.

I’ve had a Wave that developed some surface rust back a few years ago and realized that I had been using it working on a transfer pump that was previously used to pump some chemical that was slightly acidic. I didn’t think of it at the time because I was using chemical gloves and the pump was dry but the residue transferred onto my Wave. I guess the humidity at the time was enough to cause the rust. I rinsed it off good with fresh water and dried it, put a liberal amount of penetrating oil on it and then wiped off the excess. All the surface rust was gone and it has been fine since then.

I’ve carried mine in my pocket, in the bottom of my backpack. I’ve used it with sweaty hands and it’s been exposed to water. No rust or discoloration on the scales at all. I was worried before I bought it that it would be less sturdy than previous models, but I’ve found the thing to be a tank.

Just a thought but could it be some tree or plant sap that sticks or pine tar or resin and actually not rust ? The brushed finish would be more likely to hold it and more difficult to remove than a polished surface. I know Ive had some tools that accumulated tree sap on a brushed finish that looked like rust but after using some mineral spirits and oil it was gone.

Good idea. I have chopper blade I need to clean that looks rusted, but it's plant sap.

Also, pool chlorine will do that to metal as well. Even residue on your skin for the tabs or liquid.

The reply was generic. “Try this and this”. It is amazing that it rusted like it did. I’ve had my Supertool 300 since the ‘90’s with no problems at all. It seems like the really expensive ARC isn’t worth the cost.

Mine has spent it’s entire life in the carry case with the bits ….. I’m my lunchbox pocket. No moisture, hardly any use. I don’t live near salt water.

Very strange. No offer for them take a look at it?

Mine rides around on my hip in hot and humid Florida. No rust so far.

Are they going to polish it and take care of it for you ?

Leatherman has always done me good for service and repairs . My old Wave came back with a new wave + pliers jaws, file and polished it up like new. My only complaint was they must have stropped the blade edge and it wasn’t real sharp but I like to put my own micro toothy edge on em. I hope they get you fixed up especially spending that much on a Arc .
