Sorry for the hijack!
Thanks, dartanyon. I made one male insert today from a field tip using the method you recommended.
I also bought a Whisker Biscuit replacement part for $15 and attached it to an old Wrist Rocket I had lying around. Unfortunately, the slingshot's handle was broken so I'll have to replace it.
I'm still leary about the energy this will deliver. I called Wilderness Outfitter Archery today and left a message. Even if not ideally suited for big game, it looks like a great way to bowfish.
I'm kicking around a way to attach a drop-away arrow rest so I can use FOBs instead of glued fletching. I'll start a slingshot thread when I have anything to show.
