are all SOG folders like this?

My actions locked up before the blades started wobbling... couldn't get the knife to even open. Weak actions in my experience, which is sad-their blade designs are great.

I had the same experience on two different blades--twitch 2 and flash 1. I think I am done with SOG folders for a while, or until they fix that problem. Also they use really under par and boring steel.

My Trident had a little blade play when I bought it, but I just tightened the pivot screw and now there is absolutely no blade play. Although you do have to apply a little more force to the thumbstud to get the blade open fast. I actually have 2 Tridents and have never had a problem with them.

SOG's knives are in no way a work horse, they are light use EDC knives and work as an EDC with the possibility to be more tactical than other normal EDCs.

people on youtube hype up SOG so much, but their folders are not worth what they charge, their folders are toys for jr high school kids. and I think some of their fixed blades are also a little bit overpriced.

You're right. Their fixed blades are overpriced for their quality. I like some of their designs, but none of their knives are something that I would rely on.

The only reason I have SOG folders is because I had a gift card for a sporting goods store and the SOG Salute was the only knife that was "name brand." And my Tridents I have because I was able to get them for $40 a piece, compared to the $75-$80 price online.

Otherwise, I think I might not ever buy another SOG again. Especially because of their new models they came out with this year. Their SOGzillas are bad copies of Spyderco knives, and one of their new products is called "Bladeknife." It's a f***ing fixed blade with a light along side the blade.

I guess I might be the exception to the rule, but I have a Mini Vulcan Tanto and it is incredibly smooth (smoother than my BM axis lock knives, but that could be from the heavy blade) and the lockup is tight and solid. The knife is now a bit mall-ninja in retrospect, but I still really enjoy the blade shape. I still find uses for it when I really need to do pierce cuts, but otherwise it doesn't see much use.

It's definitely the first and last SOG knife I was interested in despite the overall experience being pretty positive.

Exactly what I was saying. They think they have to put the name sog on the blade as well as the handle. A perfect example shown:rolleyes:

i have 2 sog aegis, one camo and one silver with black grip, sog spec elite 1 SE, and a sog twich II. the aegis has some play on them which can be tightened but for the price it does feel pretty cheap but ive beat mine up a bit and its held together well, however im not a fan of the twitch II, the opening on it is not smooth and the play on the twich is more than the aegis and spec elite. the spec elite i love! its a big knife but its so smooth and the locking is sturdy, however im not a fan of that large of knives, and the the knife goes out of your pocket alot which im not a fan of, but other than that i love the spec elite

will pile on as well: Trident was a pretty poor performer, especially for the price where even a Chinese "ous" Spyderco would outperform. I do have a Vulcan that is VERY nice. VG-10 steel and arc lock is super smooth and stable. No bronze bushings in it, but polypro. Not really an EDC knife, but a good camping folder if you don't want to carry fixed since very thick and durable VG-10 steel.

My Aegis has no blade play, & I've used it decently hard for over a year. Had to tighten the pivot poin once, I believe. The handle does fel a bit plasticky, I guess, but its held up well, seems strong enough. Don't get me wrong, its no PM2 or anything, but its a good knife. Guess I got lucky!

No blade play on my Flash I. I did notice that it felt a little cheap out of the box, but overall I'm very pleased with it.

I bought a SOG Aegis before seeing this thread. (its on its way from Amazon)

It seems as the folding SOGs are getting a rather warm conclusion that they suck?

The looks and fundamentals look great... I am hoping it isn't as sloppy and unreliable as some of you are saying.

Yup, pretty much exactly my experience, only my trident lock failed to keep the blade open and cut my little finger to the bone, nicking a tendon
This is a lovely design, but made like a chinese toy

Blade play, lock failure, soft steel, whathaveyou

I especially love the recessed clip, but since it was made out of some kinda metal and had a bunch of holes in it for no reason, i broke it clean off.

My Trident is the same way, but since I got a great deal on it, I don't really care. It makes a good display piece, with the tiger striping and all...

I occasionally carry my Trident, it's just that it feels so cheap and breakable. It has come in useful at times though.
