are all SOG folders like this?

I am no fan of SOG folders. I agree with all the comments regarding how cheap the feel of models like the Flash and Aegis are. One folder I had is the full size X-ray Vision. It is built a lot better and I used it quite a bit some years ago. I sold it to a buddy and he still EDCs it. Having said that for what it is, rather pricey. I forget exactly but well over $100.

I have a Visionary II in VG10 with the ArcLock that has none of the problems everyone is complaining about.
No blade play whatsoever, sharp as hell and definitely does not feel "cheap" on any level. I will say the
ArcLock is not as smooth as the Axis on my full size Doug Ritter, but, aside from that, I see nothing to
criticize.

you live and you learn, to never buy sog knives. I had a flash II and that thing was the biggest POS I've ever seen, blade play out the A$$,cheap feel, it was just horrible. I gave the knife away with a warning, be careful with this knife right here, use it like it's a slip joint. For the price point there are many many better knives, I'd put SOG at the bottome of the list. If you want a good knife try a benchmade, spyderco,Kershaw hell even cold steel, They all have models with close to the same price as a SOG, and you'll get a whole lot better knife from any of the companies i mentioned than you would getting a SOG.

Also search the forums for the thread showing how SOG has copied designs from benchmade and spyderco. Not only do they sell crappy knives, They take other companies great designs, Steal them, make them as cheap and Shitty as possible, then throw out a ridiculous price tag on it. Your better off with the originals. If it sounds like i'm hating on sog it's because i am, Spyderco is one of my favorite knife companies, and they just out right copied the endura, they also copied I believe it was a benchmade rift, but don't hold me to that because im not 100%. They need to come up with their own designs, need to improve 100% in QC before i would ever spend my hard earned cash on another 1.

I have only a couple of SOG folders, from years ago. A Pentagon Elite and a Microdot(?). They are ok, but I never really carried them. I find that SOG's folders do not appeal to me, at all.

OTOH, don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. I think some of SOG's fixed blades are excellent.

I've never owned a SOG, and am not likely to buy one after reading these posts. I have one BenchMade and three Spyderco's, every one with ZERO blade play in any direction.

I really wish i would have found this forum earlier, it would have saved me the anticipation of waiting for my sog flash 1 only to be disgusted when i finally received it. I read in a earlier post someone saying sog knives are always bashed on here, why not gerber, there's a reason. I have to say I've bought gerber folders for half of what I paid for the flash 1 and they are twice the knife. I also understand sog uses higher quality materials to make their knives but that means nothing if it feels like it will fall apart in my hand

I guess I got pretty lucky with my Aegis. I have hardly any play, I can say most, but not all of their folders are like that.

^ The aegis is one of the better folders by sog that I have handled. I had a sog trident tanto that managed to disappear on it's own (stolen). I fired fast and could take a good edge but didn't hold it for long. I had slight blade play and when I adjusted it to none it fired very slowly. I loved at the time because I hadn't dipped into the finer knives out there, but now, it would never see pocket time.

All SOG assisted folders have blade play, just bad design. If you tighten it up till there is no blade play, then the release will be slow, which kinda negates the need for an assisted opener. SOG really needs to ditch the design.

On the other hand, their non-assisted folders are pretty decent. I own a vulcan and love it. Rock solid. I got a couple of their cheaper line folders as well, and they are quite a good value for the money.

Just stay away from their S.A.T folders.

I have had a few sog folders and the only decent one that i still rotate in my edc carries is the sog flash 2 which i believe the flash 1 and 2 to be the only decent sog folders imo

I have an Aegis, which I like very much. The centering is off, but there is no blade play in any direction. My Visionary II is well finished, as are my two Vulcans and none exhibit any blade play or off centering. Perhaps the moral of the story is to keep to the upper priced SOG folders and 'cherry pick' the lower end folders. Would I buy again? Absolutely.

I made the mistake of spending $200 on a new tomcat 3. After a week it developed up and down play. It now lives in my fishing bag with a cheap gerber assisted opener I use. I was hugely disappointed because they make some cool designs. I'm not even bothering to sell because no ones gonna want a folder with up and down play. I'll never buy another sog folder.

Hm, I Owned A Trident Once, And It Was Alright.
I Do Agree It Had Some Play, That Was Fixable - A Little - With Adjusting The Pivot.
Still Had A Very Small Amount Of Play.
I Liked The Knife, But It Could Be A Lot Better.
I Traded It.

I Also Owned A Twitch 2 And Loved It.
I Used It Some, And Carried It.
This One Also Had A Very Miniscule Amount Of Play.
But It Wasn't Really Noticeable At All Unless You Were Trying And Wasn't The Issue I Had.
The Downfall On That One Was If I Didn't Put The Safety On When It Was In My Pocket, It Would Open When I Went To Withdraw It.(Cut Myself A Few Times This Way.)
Now I Know That's The Reason There Is A Safety But I've Owned A Lot Of Assisted Kershaws, And Even Cheapy $5 - $10 Assisted Knives And NEVER Had That Issue.
It Was A Bummer Too, I Loved Carrying It Next To My Para2.

Now... Enter The SOG Twitch XL.
This Is By Far The Best SOG I've Owned.
Mine Is Very Nice, Solid, And Doesn't Open On Its Own.
It Had Developed A Very Tiny Bit Of Play And That Was Easily Fixed.
It's A Good Solid Knife But I Just Don't Do Anything With It.
It's A Good Knife. But There Could Still Be Some Changes.

Maybe We Should Write SOG And Give Them Some Good Ideas.

Well i got the sog flash 2 and my only problem with it is the clip is lose and i have tightened it so many times but you would still love you ugly kid so i like it.
