Are Andre de Villiers' knives made in South Africa?

An absence of information is proof of nothing. I met the man at an ICCE show and he is real and had nice very expensive knives that I did not care for.

It is actually quite strong circumstantial evidence. Name a single maker or manufacturer that’s active on social media and has never posted a shop pic or work-in-progress pic.

I've recently perused ADV knives on dealer websites and he and the dealers are not hiding that some of his models are made in China. It is quite explicit. Other models are listed as made in SA.

In the words of my 2 year old “that’s strange”, I just perused ADV’s website and didn’t see a CoO mentioned on the knives I looked at. Maybe I’m on the wrong site or didn’t look at enough knives. He is sure to mention the designs are his own in the ‘about us’ section. When “makers” use verbiage like that, I automatically become suspect.

It’s also strange he attends knife shows in South Florida but not in South Africa, where his shop is allegedly based. He could make them all in a shop in South Africa but my money is on a shop in Yangjiang.

Not my picture, just one I found. I know the first thing that comes to my mind when I see the American flag in advertisements and marketing is South Africa.

And? Did you watch the guy make them there at the show? No? Huh, almost like your entirely circumstantial anecdote is meaningless, and not proof of anything itself.

Sorry I was unclear. It’s proof he exists and sells high $ fancy knives. Each was unique.

Actually, no. Plenty of "makers" are popping up every day on places like Instagram, Facebook, Reddit, and elsewhere who have technically created nothing, just ginned up some designs and sent them off to some overseas manufacturer in China, who sends back boxes of completed knives. Dudes portraying themselves as knifemakers when they haven't turned so much as a single screw.

So, a maker with a table of knives at a knife show is technically not proof that he's made anything, which actually works to further brancron brancron and others' point, that it's entirely possible that ADV is having his knives produced in China.

This is on his FB page, it says its his son in his shop.....

I will say that equipment looks suspiciously clean and pristine-like. Is the belt sander even running? That belt looks like it's fresh off the shelf. And the shop floor is remarkably clean - yet no broom in sight.

Not that it proves anything.

Or.............. DOES it? 🤣 🤣 🤣

That shop has insanely clean floors. Kinda like mine.
My machines however, do not sit that close together. And I don’t clean them everyday. :/

Staged picture.....probably not even plugged in let alone running.
Neither one has any business being near a running machine. Hoodies with draw strings hanging down, long hair, no safety glasses etc....
