Are AR's prices still rising?

For some reason, ARs and AR derived pistols, Glocks with extended mags and mags themselves are still in local gun stores here. I guess those that want them pretty much have them or are waiting for prices to level back out. Ammunition is no problem and if there are limits, I am not aware of it. We had a gun show last week and one out of ten had an AR strapped to their backs hoping to profit. Dealers had plenty of them as well. Mags and drums weren't cheap, but they were present. Including hi-cap for the 1022.

A big 'thank you' to the 4th, for hookin' a brother up!

I have noticed that some on-line dealers had gone to auctioning available stock, at astronomical final offer prices too. Now I see some stock coming back into on-line stores. DMPS Panther, Rock Island, but no Bushmaster, Colt, etc. Ironically Double Star is just down the road about 40 miles away. They seem to have been swept clean also. Prices for what is available seems to be still $300-$400 over list.

The election in 08 caused a shortage of reloading supplies of close to a year. With all the hype today, I would expect longer this time.
That said! I have never seen a shortage of 22 ammo in my lifetime. I stocked up on powder and primers and raw lead before this election period. But I never saw a shortage of rimfires. Live and learn.
Maybe the Chinese can step in and bail us out?

I can speak to the retail end of the firearm industry as I'm a FFL dealer. Generally speaking, prices on ARs already reached their max from the banic (ban panic). This is due to several reasons. One, holidays are over. Two, people have spent their money. Three, the initial panic of a ban has subsided. You may see a slight price increase in the next couple of months b/c of people getting tax returns.

So when will prices return to normal (less than MSRP)? If you disregard a ban happening, my prediction is Fall or Winter 2013 at the earliest.

EVERY 1st quarter, the demand for popular firearms (ARs, Glock, etc) exceeds the supply b/c of the holidays. This usually runs into the beginning of the 2nd quarter. So we're talking about April or May when distributors start receiving inventory.

But, Remington was awarded a gov't contract to build 24k M4A1. They are supposed to start delivery on September 2013. So they are buying up parts to build these. So now we're talking about late summer or early fall when parts will be readily available to manufacturers.

That's my guess on it....

Our Constitution says they are breaking our rules.

None of the rights granted to us in the Constitution are absolute. Present circumstances, common sense, and other factors dictate their limits. In the case of the Second Amendment, few people would argue that it allows private citizens to possess nuclear weapons, landmines, or anti-aircraft missiles. Clearly, there are limits. Where a society chooses to set the limit is up to them. That's the beauty of the Constitution; it's vague enough that its interpretation can change with the times and the people. States should have greater say than the federal government with regards to the enforcement and interpretation of the laws. That said, I'm happy with the way my state does things.

Our right to keep and bear arms is not granted by our Constitution - it is merely protected by it. The right exists even if (or when) tyrants say otherwise. I'm also mostly happy with the way your state does things though.

Granted....protected....semantics. Protected is the better way to express it, but it hardly matters.

Not semantics. A very important distinction. But to continue to discuss it will get this thread closed, rightly so, for political discussion.

For what it's worth, there are plenty of ARs listed in online gun buying sites right now, and their prices don't seem too outrageous. I can't say what you may find locally, but if you're willing to buy online, you should be able to find something at a reasonable price.

Some of my local dealers have inventory with some crazy prices. The dealer that I visited yesterday in Freedom N.H. had prices 10% to 20% over m.s.r.p. on the most ordinary firearms. Revolvers and semi auto hand guns, Taurus, Charter Arms, and even Hi-Point. What the heck! I wish WalMart sold hand guns.

My M&P came in today. $740 OTD so I am happy. Now, to find ammo and mags (10-rd restricted mags. sigh. I don't live in a free state).

I picked up five 30 round PMAGs online last week for $160. If you're timing is right, you can get find some for a similar price or even a tad cheaper.
