Are ball bearings really needed

i'm not a big fan of bearings. HOWEVER, i need one flipper on bearings that falls shut to fidget with, when i'm in the mood. any time i don't own one, i end up buying one. sold my shiro and my ZT 0801Ti. less than a week later i have a 0452 on the way because i need a fidget toy

could a knife maker make a bearing so that the tolerances are very low, and in the gap between the scales and blade we can have a PB washer inbetween also.

so a bearing in center and washer around that to close the gap. it would be easy to draw rather than explain.

the idea being there is no room for debris to get into the pivot area at all.

Needed? No.
They aren't a problem though either...

I see people complain about grit being a problem.
Well, I have been working on a new knife for a while now (almost done), and was wearing my ZT 0804CF while doing hours of grinding and forging during the first day of creation.
There was angle grinder grit.
There was belt sander grit.
There was so much charcoal dust.
Had I not been wearing my respirator, I would not have been able to breathe.
My skin colour changed from very white to almost black, I was so covered in grit and charcoal dust.
The shower had to be scrubbed after my shower, and my wife thought my clothes might never get clean (they did though :) ).

All I had to do for the knife was blow the pivot area clean with my breath (I'm out of computer duster).
Oh, I also wiped the inside and outside with a Kleenex.
Those are the exact same things I did maintenance-wise on subsequent days of work on it when carrying knives equipped with washers.

Washers, bearings, it's all good.

I would like to see the zt 0630 on bearings. The pivot really helps with being able to tightwn it down and still be smooth. It is one of my favorite pivot designs. Same as the 0300 and 0620.

I own a ZT562 and mine is even on ceramic bearings and its smooth as hell.
The bearings cut down on the chatter when the blade opens and closes and
with the ceramic conversion my ZT562 is crazy smooth on the close.
