Are expensive knives worth it?

if one is not comfortably using
something to the max,
perhaps it time to review
the deciding factors
before the next purchase.
I have a collection of sharp pointy things made over 100-200 years ago, and I doubt that I will be using many of those. There are entire categories of knives, that are not intended for use.

Would you really want to beat this thing against a tree?

No!

Beautiful. But I probably wouldn't t spend a third that much on a gun. Outside my realm.

I know some people I'd stab with it though... A shockingly large number of people.

hell yeah if i was king tut, i would.
but then again seeing how things
have changed drastically since those
thousands of years ago
what was right in the past
may not necessarily be considered
appropriate in future lifetimes.
i suspect such a flashy dagger would be redesignated as ornate decorative art
today rather than functional afterlife divine ice pick :)
yes there is a distinction
to be made between
embelished works and
quality work knives.
and honestly, anything
flashy is in the relm of
pimps to drug barons in our time
seriously, who else could afford them for use anyways?
anyone else would place that in
a safe or have it hung behind a bullet proof glass under 24 hour electronic survalence

Your argument fails when money is free. It’s all about how you handle your cash in hand and apparent debt. I’d not normally advocate debt, but with current interest rates and incentives to borrowers with good credit, it kinda makes sense.

Let’s ease up on the cola and fish hooks, kay? This is a family area of the forum.
Not sure what cola and fish hooks is. But I think families should teach their kids taking on debt for sheets is not the smartest thing they can do. A second job to pay for such things would be better than buying sheets on credit.

Apparaent debt must be a word used by people that don't have money. If you can't handle purchasing sheets, I don't care how expensive they are, you got issues. If you have to consult your financial guy for a scheme, you need a second job.

If you think about the interest you can make off investing the money to buy sheets, they are out of your league.

This is a family friendly discussion forum, not a locker room. Please post accordingly.
I guess we all have different ideas of what offensive is. I would think phallic is pretty tame. Should I have said knives are shaped more like tally wackers than woohoos?

I personally stop around the 250 dollar mark, as I don't find much increase in cutting performance.
I pretty much agree with this, with a couple of caveats.

First, a good SAK will do almost any cutting task I need, probably 95%. At under $50.

Second, there are 2 makers I have found (there are probably more) whose higher prices do indeed come with much improved cutting performance. Murray Carter and Phil Wilson.

I mostly agree on the $250 price, my exception being OTF's.

Not understanding the cola and fish hooks reference indicates that you don’t know where you are and what the environment is. It was a direct reference to an inappropriate comment you made in a family friendly part of the forum.

The rest of your financial commentary is really bad advice. One should never hesitate to consult a “financial guy” (or gal) to chart ones secure future.

Good luck and enjoy your knives.

Ah sure, ya I don't know what cola and fish hooks is. A regional reference or some forum culture thing. I am really over it. Not going to play 20 questions.

Thread count on sheet sets is a slippery slope. We use, as a minimum, 1,000 to 1,200 tpsi (single ply).

Ask your doctor if Walmart 200 tpsi percale is right for you.
I asked my doctor if high thread count sheets or an expensive knife would have any health benefits, but he just grunted and told me to turn my head and cough. I get the impression he’s not interested in worldly goods because he doesn’t even have an office, or even an administrative assistant. He doesn’t charge me anything but maybe I should get him some hanging lights or something because it gets pretty dark under bridges.

I think expensive knives are worth it. Value is in the eye of the beholder anyway. You should see some of the looks I get when I tell folks what I paid for a knife. "You paid HOW much for that CPK, Olamic or CRK?" Some of my knives are worth more than some of my guns. I value them, so I pay the price.

Debate of rare and/or extreme high-quality blades aside; some people actually complain about ALL blades being too expensive and useless. Any blade is better than nothing and you pay a price for quality (most of the time). These people have probably never operated a firearm, or even slept outdoors in their life. Americans like to call these people woke. In Australia we call them pussies.
