Are Holt Haptics worth the money $$?

Me too I think. I’ve wanted one for a long time but just not worth the money $$$. There’s a used Haptic on EBay right now with some wear on the pocket clip that the guy won’t come down off $1250 for but it was originally a $800-$850 knife. That’s my problem with it.

I ended up overpaying because I realllllly wanted to check out a Holt.

“Worth it” is all relative. Initially I was like “I paid $xx for this?!” but after handling and using it I have come to very much appreciate the Haptic. Beautiful knife and scratches so many itches for me that it’s become that one knife for me in my collection. I’ve never spent this much in a knife and wanted to use and carry it so much.

That being said, I can definitely see people not liking the knife for whatever reason as all of our tastes are different. I do think it’s a noticeable step up in quality over CRK and Hinderers, and definitely more useable than a Norseman. But there are a lot of really nice knives in this price range if you shop around — Skiff, Brown Knives, Herman, Koenig, etc. All rival the action and fit/finish of a Holt in my opinion.

Basically, I love mine and intend to use the snot out of it, and I recognize that I overpaid to get it. There are other comparable knives that might be more obtainable or have less inflated prices. Unfortunately, after accumulating a fair amount of knives, it was pretty easy to justify selling 5 spydercos to raise funds to crack into this price bracket... I probably do get 5 Spydercos worth of enjoyment and use out of my Haptic as a collector.

Just my two cents. Great knife, but there are other great knives out there too.

I appreciate you sharing your experience with a Haptic. I don’t know? If I could find one on here for $900-$950 I’d probably buy one but it seems like I’m never in the right place at the right time. I’ve seen them sell for as low as $900 on here but missed it. You definitely can’t but one on EBay. They’re too high. $1,300-$1,800 usually

I’m seriously considering trying a Shirogorov because they’re more available

I don’t have any Shiro experience, but I’ve heard great things. Don’t think you could go wrong with it. I paid >$1000 for the haptic, which pains me to say, but again that was by selling other knives, so I’ve slowly accumulated the investment in the hobby to be able to do it.

if you don’t want to pay the secondary prices, go for something else like a Shiro and maybe try to get in on one of the Haptic lotteries for table price

I’m the same way. I’ve got a lot of Spydercos, Benchmades, and ZTs that I’ve been selling to upgrade to higher end stuff. I try to keep the same amount of money invested but in less knives. My problem is that I’ve got so many knives I can’t decide which one to carry. I usually carry my latest acquisition the most then get bored and go back to my old favorites. Right now I’ve been carrying a TRM Shadow a fair amount

That's pretty much how I am too. I will say that the Haptic has persisted in the pocket the most -- it's a great size with awesome action and just a superbly useable sheepsfoot blade. How'd you snag a Shadow? I've been looking out for one for a while...

It’s kind of a lucky thing I tried and tried to get an Atom and could never get my address and credit information to go thru fast enough at drop time before they were sold out so I emailed them and a lady named Jennifer emailed me back promptly and told me she’d put me on a waiting list. To my surprise in about a week she emailed me and asked me what scale I wanted, I paid got it and I had it in 3-4 days. When I saw the prototype of the Shadow I knew I had to have one so I emailed her asking when they were going to be out and asked her if she could put me on the waiting list but she said no waiting list on them. I kept in contact with her for probably 6-8 months on it and 2-3 months ago she emailed me and said she thought she could get me one before the craziness began. 2-3 days later she emailed me, I paid for it and in 3-4 days I had it. I also lucked into buying 2 Protech Mailibus from BladeHQ. Black handles, one reverse tanto and one warncliff. Also got a hold of an Alliance Mini Slim Pickens and a new Protech Rockeye

Wow, what a series of scores!

I’ve considered a Shirogorov but I’m afraid they’re just as hard to obtain and just as over priced and over hyped as Holts. I like what I believe is the F95 and they’re pretty hard to obtain
I would def go with shiro over a Holt any day. Shiro is a solid flipper where the holts feel almost toy like. Holts action is fast but just doesn’t do it for me.
The f95 is not hard to obtain and the mark up is no where near the double table of the specter Unless you go into the custom division/ full custom territory.

pm me if you looking for a f95 .I have a mint 95 R19 I would sell to you for your first

Thanks! Yeah I do work at it though. I don’t seem to be as good at acquiring Holts and Koenigs and such.

Do you have any experience with a Koenig Arius? If so which is better an Arius or Shiro?

I have a few of both. Honestly say they are 2 totally different knives. Action is great on both.
Arius handles and blades shapes are larger. The acoustics are different as well. Here's the 55 sound-
Here's a shiro-
Sounds vary depending on inlay / milling on the 95 and same on arius
