Are looks important to your purchase decision?

Why live life owning items that don't please the eye? There's a difference between us collectors and a hoarder.

To me looks are very important. I like knives that look nice and I can be proud of owning and will impress, but not scare non knife people. In fact the last two knives I purchased I bought because of the wood handles and carbon steel blades. I was considering how they would look after use and patina. Well to be honest I also took preformance into account, but looks played a huge part.

So, basically what everyone is saying: If it runs like a Porsche, but looks like a Yugo, it ain't flying....

or: if it looks like a Porsche, but runs like a Yugo, it ain't flying either....

:D

Good enough. Looking at your avatar, any of those knives could be replaced with a box cutter, but would you?

looks for me are very important.
if i don't like the looks of it i never buy it.
spyderco was a brand, at first, that i didn't like at all but with time it started to grow on me:)
because i always have to import my stuff, looks is, probably, the first thing i go for.
bought one like this based on that:)

Whoa, I like that Fantoni, reminds me of a 20 year old Almar my dad used to carry

I don't think its shallow. I've never bought a knife I thought was ugly. There are no shortage of great performing knives that also look cool.

A knife has to speak to me before I will buy it - and since most of my first impressions come from the internet the knife has to be a good looking piece before I will pull the trigger or make the trip to the B&M store.

Shame on you for even suggesting....

Just so you know, I drive a Ford Focus, what does THAT tell you? :D

It's a hand-me-down btw...

Form and function go hand in hand for me. With all the different brands and choices out there it is easy to find something that looks good and works well too.

I find that looks are very important and I think that Spydercos look cool. I also like traditional pocketknives (especially stockmen) and hunters with natural handle materials. I don't see many knives that I don't like so it is still difficult to make choices.

I try not to let looks affect my buying decisions when it comes to knives, but I fail..lol

Its not THE deciding factor, but if I see 7 knives that are all rated and reviewed pretty equally but 1 or 3 appeal to me in a visual way, "calling" to me as it were, then the choice is obvious.

If someone tells me that a knife that looks like hell actually feels great in the hand and does what I want it to amazingly well then I will always give it a shot, but yes visual appeal does affect my decision making.

I think looks are important to most people on here. That's why we have a forum right?

There is no such thing as spadeforums, screwdriverforums or hammerforums that i'm aware of:p

I think when you've used knives a bit, you start recognizing what patterns work for you and that becomes part of what you look for.

but there is a "tool" forum :D

When not quite sure, I find beer to be very helpful when it comes to appreciating the inner beauty (of a knife, in this case). :D

i just bought a spyderco para 2 despite the way it looks. It just handled too well especially for detail work for me not to buy it. And I decided not to buy a benchmade 940 that I LOVE the look of because it didn't feel right in my hand. So yeah i guess looks aren't that important to me.

Looks are important, why buy a knife that you don't like the looks of?

Form matters, function matters. If you can't find a knife with both good form & good function then look harder - there are a LOT of knives out there!
