Are neck knives safe?

I think that is an innovative solution, and well-imagined.

But, with a well made sheath, like a good kydex sheath, such is not necessary.

Not to say that it is, or that it is not necessary with the standard sheath, as I have no knowledge of them.

Admittedly, I use the strap to be redundant. The factory sheath has never failed me. I am just not sure how it would handle being bumped around in the brush and maybe snagged on something. I am new completely to these modern types of sheaths so it makes me feel a little better.

And that my friend, is a perfectly good reason. And for that purpose, your idea works well, I would imagine. Well thought out.

Better safe than sorry. It took me a long time to trust kydex handgun sheaths. After a year of carrying I trust it works well but that doesn't mean it couldn't come out on a freak occurrence.

I carry a Blackie Collins/Meyerco "Buddy System" neck knife quite a bit. I really like that the knife is locked into the sheath. You must push a button to release it. Feels safe to me.

The Government. That is excellent solution. Your way gave me idea and I fixed my necker similar way. Thank you for the idea, I hope you don't mind?

Perhaps just to be contrary, I neck carry an Emerson La Griffe as a backup to my primary EDC Persian, mostly just because I like it.
I like to challenge the utility of the hawkbill blade, and so far it does anything a similarly sized, different shaped blade could, some things better.
I have no concerns about losing the knife from its sheath. It takes a real firm tug to draw. Retention is solid.

Those La Griffe's are very cool. I plan on adding one in 2010. There's a lot of similar "last ditch" cutters out there that look almost identical to the La Griffe.

Is it made with a different steel or have sort of excellent grind on it?? Should google it, but I'm lazy today :)

It's 154CM and has a chisel grind like most Emersons (which I find extremely annoying, but whatever :P).

It's just a really nice knife. It's expensive for what it is though IMO. Not that it isn't worth it, but...

That was the impression I got after looking at the Emerson Perrin, then comparing to similar offerings at a fraction of the cost. I figure if you have one, cool!

A bad guy won't care what brand you just slashed his face or arms with if the sh*t hit the fan....just saying

Yeah, I'm willing to pay a premium for the simple elegant design as well as the steel, the grind (which I like just fine), the Emerson rep. and warranty and apparently the exclusivity.
I like to do what makes me feel good!
BTW I just got back from a drive into town and noticed my La Griffe, with the way I have the ball chain threaded through the sheath, hangs completely below the shoulder belt in my truck. The strap wouldn't contact the sheath or blade in the event of "sudden deceleration".
WHEW!!!
