Are OLAMIC KNIVES worth the Money????

This is exactly why it took me so long to get an Olamic. The picture of the model I waned on BladeHQ CLEARLY showed a heinous mark on the pivot.

Until the latest model (buster?), I thought they were some of the shapeliest knives out there. I am very over frame lock flippers but I find Olamics so pretty I am often tempted to buy one.

Worth it to me? I am on the fence at the moment.

I'm in the same boat. Olamics just look great with excellent materials and a nice variety of options (scales , finishes , hardware etc). I'm not at all interested in flippers. But the Wayfarer 247 and Swoosh may just change my mind. Still on the fence.

The Busker looks to be a pretty neat little knife, but emphasis on the little. A friend just picked one up north of 7 bills, but #$&@, it's gorgeous.

The prices on the secondary market are a little more in line with my perceived value. Then again, I'm a professional cheapskate. Their customer service is second to none, and I'm dead serious there. Eugene treats you like royalty no matter what you have, or how many times it's passed hands.

Also, Olamic is the first company I've heard of (correct me if I'm wrong) to have a trade-in trade-up program for their knives. They offer it on the Wayfarer 247, and plan to offer it on the Swish. So, they get high marks in my book - expensive but you get what you pay for.

This sucker gets carried and used. It actually cleans up really nice - not nearly as beat up as it looks here. Scuffs polish right out of clip. BTW, Doctor Frunkey (above video) just received my 247 pictured here for review. He had a bad custom Olamic experience (bad is relative, and he's particular but nice), so watch for his consult to see what he thinks of the "production" versions. I'm betting on redemption.

I don't find the Busker unattractive at all, personally. This one is mine, and I'm quite partial to it:

I sure wished I had keep my Wafarer 247. As close to custom as you can get. You can't beat Eugene. He is great to deal with.

There have been many times that I've considered buying an Olamic. I always thought the value was there for what you get regarding design, fit, finish, and materials.
Luckily for my wallet they don't make leftys. Shame because I'm really liking the Busker too.

That blade shape looks way more appealing to me.

Is the action as good as it looks in their vids?

If you mean like the Busker and Scotch video on their instagram, I'd say pretty much. My index finger is a little messed up at the tip (the ligament didn't reattach in the right place the third time I broke it or something) and I have a hard time flipping it with my index finger like he does in the video. I thumb flip it when I use the flipper and it snaps open. It flicks open with the hole nicely as well, from the top or bottom. I think the detent on mine is a bit stiffer than the one in the video I refered to, though.

Again, all in the eye of the beholder. I had a 247 in elmax for a while, one of the early runs of that model. It was very nice in hand, good flipper. But, I noticed that the pivot would continually loosen up after 4 flips or so. I was really disappointed in it, and ultimately sold it off.

I've been a fan of Olamic for awhile and Eugene has always been a pleasure to deal with, even as their business has continued to grow.

^ This pic doesn't really do the knives any favors, but they're all very nicely finished. The Rainmaker, in denim micarta and copper, has been carried and used quite a bit.

I'm afraid of all of the hate I'm going to generate, but here goes:

I just bought an Olamic Wayfarer 247. It's the base model, with no extra fanciness whatsoever. The detent is VERY strong, to the point that the flipper tab is uncomfortable on the thumb. The blade does not at all fall shut, either, when closing the knife. I can feel the detent ramp, which I like a lot, but I can get that on my Kizer T1. I think I may prefer that Kizer and my Manix 2 backlock over my Olamic. And for just a little more money than the Wayfarer,
you can go all out and get a Benchmade Anthem. The 247 is definitely gorgeous, and it feels pretty good in the hand, but I'm not $400 impressed; you guys are seeing things that I'm just not seeing.

@Sharperthansticks, You said you just got your 247. It will get easier and you will get acclimated to it. The strong detent is, IMHO, needed to obtain enough preload on the flipper tang to fire the generous blade to fully deployed. The 247 is a winner.

orork orork , I hope you're right. I was thinking of sending the 247 back to Olamic and asking them to dial back the detent. Sure, you can disassemble it and try to ease back the lockbar, but I'm not very handy, and for a $400 knife, I don't think I trust myself. By the way, Nick Shabazz reviewed both the 247 and (months and maybe even a year later) the Swish, and he said that the Swish has a softer detent.

We typically err on the side of stronger detent but that is absolutely something that we can adjust. Please feel free to PM/email me and we'll take care of it.

O OlamicCutlery , three questions:

1. If an owner disassembles a Wayfarer 247 (or other model) and scratches the pivot(s), do you guys sell replacements? If so, for how much?
2. Do you guys have non-proprietary (torx) pivots for sale to replace the stock ones on the Wayfarer 247?
3. Do you still have the upgrade program on the Wayfarer 247, even though it's discontinued? (It's discontinued, right?)

Heyyy, really sorry about that - I won't make any excuses. Will send you a DM to try and make up for it.
I bit the bullet and now have 3 I would have to say VERY IMPRESSED the 1 OFF Wayfarer Compact is Beautiful and the 2 Wayfarer's are over the top in quality and looks.
