Are OLAMIC KNIVES worth the Money????

1. Yes, they are $12 shipped and come with a pivot tool. The tool is always free if you lose one or the knife didn't come with one. Pivots can be anodized whatever color you want.
1B. Our warranty is also transferable, and we will honor it even if you are not the original purchaser.
2. We do not. However, our new Busker model is torx as are Wayfarer Classic, Wayfarer Compact, and Rainmaker models.
3. The 247 is not discontinued, we just do batches of them. The trade-in program is closed at the moment but will be open for a period early(ish) next year.

O OlamicCutlery , three questions:

1. If an owner disassembles a Wayfarer 247 (or other model) and scratches the pivot(s), do you guys sell replacements? If so, for how much?
2. Do you guys have non-proprietary (torx) pivots for sale to replace the stock ones on the Wayfarer 247?
3. Do you still have the upgrade program on the Wayfarer 247, even though it's discontinued? (It's discontinued, right?)

I'm afraid of all of the hate I'm going to generate, but here goes:

I just bought an Olamic Wayfarer 247. It's the base model, with no extra fanciness whatsoever. The detent is VERY strong, to the point that the flipper tab is uncomfortable on the thumb. The blade does not at all fall shut, either, when closing the knife. I can feel the detent ramp, which I like a lot, but I can get that on my Kizer T1. I think I may prefer that Kizer and my Manix 2 backlock over my Olamic. And for just a little more money than the Wayfarer,
you can go all out and get a Benchmade Anthem. The 247 is definitely gorgeous, and it feels pretty good in the hand, but I'm not $400 impressed; you guys are seeing things that I'm just not seeing.
Nothing wrong with preferring a different knife.
As far as the Anthem, I've got one...and am less than thrilled with it. Nice, yes...but it isn't all that. (FWIW, my 247 cost more than the Anthem.)
I still haven't decided what I think of my 247. Eugene was great throughout the process, and was willing to adjust the things with which I was a bit disappointed...but I chose not to send it back. I think I've carried it once... but, honestly, I can't say that is because of issues with the knife. I've got a few knives that I really like, and they get most of the pocket time. If a knife doesn't wow me right off the bat, it's likely to be shelved unless/until I decide to give it a chance. I haven't given the 247 that opportunity, yet; but I think its time is getting close, because I didn't buy it to sit on my desk and look good.

Correction: I said that the flipper was uncomfortable on the thumb. Meant the forefinger. I'm not trying to front flip the Wayfarer 247. :-)

After buying five Olamic knives I'm pretty sure the worst thing about them is that they're making me want to buy more. It's a good thing I generally avoid buying any knife that weighs more than five ounces or I'd have at least a few more already.

I have a Wayfarer 247. Great flipper. Actually, all my Olamic’s are great, comfortable flippers.

I've got the 247 in my pocket today. I quickly remembered my initial disappointments, as soon as I picked it up:
The pocket clip was too tight - couldn't use with jeans. (Sculpted pattern, and ball of clip sat in a valley.) Eugene offered a couple of fixes, I just bent it out a little (not sure how it will work in other pants, now...but I'll find out tonight)
Unable to use the cutout in the blade for one handed opening. Eugene offered to adjust the detent to make that possible, I declined. I am able to pinch the blade open, and rotate it open one handed.
And, probably the biggest, most petty disappointment - it's supposed to be purple, and it generally looks like dark titanium. Sometimes, in great light, it's got a bit of a purple hue; but I was hoping for more color. That's actually the reason I shelved it, because it was enough to have me leaning toward selling the knife. Not worth the financial hit I'd take, though; so I'm going to use it.

A few people have mentioned the detent. Mine is probably what most people would consider perfect, or nearly so. I tend to prefer a softer detent, even if it affects the action a bit. I'm not worried about how fast the blade flips, as long as I can make it work consistently; and I like to be able to bump the blade free with just a nudge of the flipper. I can't do that on this one, but it flips fairly easily. The blade doesn't fall closed -but I don't find that feature desirable, anyway. I close my blades, with my fingers out of the way...I don't want the blade swinging down as soon as I release the lockbar.

Worth the money? I'm still not sure how I feel about the knife; but the quality is there.

You guys may be smiling at my amateur comment here, but one of the things that I really do like about the Wayfarer 247 is the curved back side. Many pocket knives are angular at the bottom, and what that means for me is that the angle digs into my palm, which I find very uncomfortable. I think that all pocket knives should have a rounded butt to them, and I very much like that my Olamic has that.

As an aside, I'll say that one general pet peeve that I have with all pocket knives is the way the clip feels in the hand, but I'm not sure what anyone could do about that. It's just a necessary evil if you want to hang the knife in your pocket instead of have it ride in the interior along with all of your other crap.

Herald, I do want you to be perfectly happy with the knife, so today will shoot you an email with some options to discuss re-finishing it, so that it ends up in your pocket often!

Eugene,
I almost edited that portion out of my response, because I didn't want you to feel compelled to offer refinishing. I chose to leave it because I had discussed all three concerns with you upon receipt of the knife. The first two are now non-issues. The color, I feel is a petty complaint...but I suppose it's somewhat normal for one to be more picky about such things as pricing increases.

I will watch for your email...though I'm thinking I want to give it some pocket time and give the knife a chance. If it's going to be a keeper, that aesthetic will be the icing on the cake. If not, there's not much reason for either of us to dwell on it at this point. (If it doesn't "make the cut", I'll most likely be interested in trading in/up when that program is available again.

I just got my Wayfarer back from Olamic. They customized it for me and did a great job! It started out as a plain Jane basic 247. Eugene kept in touch with me throughout the process and the work was done quickly. 100% satisfied.

I just traded for another 24-7! I know the other two I owned were like custom knives to me. They feel real good in the hand and with Eugene you know you have someone good to deal with.

Not sure if a dedicated thread exists for my question, i couldn't find one so ill just bump this thread.
I got my 247 PJ a couple months ago, and i genuinely love everything about it with one exception. Build, design, size, quality, A+ all the way.
But i really don't like the clip. Its a pain to put in my pocket no matter what pants I'm wearing. Ive tried loosening it up a bit, but then i feel like its not as secure in pocket as i want. I don't really want to spend $150 on some fancy bling bling clip, are there any options for just a plain ti or steel clip like a CRK or BM or Spyderco has? I would love to find one but it doesn't seem to exist...thanks in advance for anyone who has info.
