Are Randall fixed blades the Sebenza of the...

Just a little update. RMK are now about three years behind in filling orders.

The link to Nordic Knives is www.nordicknives.com, but they are right now taking orders for October 2002 delivery. Not immediate, but a lot better than through RMK themselves.

Dave,

A former Soldier AND a Randall lover?

And here I was, this whole time, thinking that you were just the product of a misspent youth, bloated and tattooed to make up for feelings of inadequacy, city bred and McDonalds fed, holding down the fort in the ancestral Queens "Brownstone" with your wife and the three ugly kids...

WOW! Did I ever have you pegged wrong...Hell, I’m starting to like you more already, shoot, I might even send you a Christmas card now...lol ;)

Knife content: Sweet #1-7!

And before you ask, USAF, AWCS, 30554-E, "Computer Systems Repair Specialist" 4 years.

Easy there Mel, I like you too, but this doesn't mean we'll be taking long hot showers together till the wee hours of the morning(I love that movie). Ok, maybe we'll praty a little ;)

Air Force, huh? Best mess halls in the service.
BTW, that's a 1-8".

Dave

General,
Regarding Randall knives I don't know all that much, just wanted to let you know that I was at their site today, and unless you go through a dealer expect to wait a while. If you go directly through the company I believe that are taking orders now which will be delivered in October 2004. Happy Shopping

Yep thanks, I had a look and indeed the availability is in years not months. A pity really as just a few days ago one of my best friends who is in the British Army asked me to get him a knife like the classic F/Sykes but better. Well I saw the Model 2 and figured it would be perfect at $240 for him! A little more than he wanted to spend, but one heck of a knife! However the war will be over before one of those comes around. I will have to recommend a Gerber MkII or a Tai Pan from Cold Steel. Both are great knives... Just not a Randall!:(

Ah well, not my problem.

Wayne, if I am not mistaken RMK will make allowances for those in the armed forces. All you have to do is prove that you are in the military and you can get a knife pretty quick. I know this is the case with the U.S. military so hopefully it is the same with allies of the U.S..

Unfortunatly I am not in the Army, it is my friend who is! Mark is a Corp in the Welsh Guards (Tanks). I could ask him to deal with this and provide proof, but it is for this reason (not wanting the hassle) that he asked me to do this for him. I e-mailed Randall knives and explained the situation to them. The response was a polite get in line. Now that does not worry me as this is for a friend and I have done all I can! I know I have tried my best and I even asked them if they knew of any dealers with this knife in stock without charging extra for said knife. No reply:(

So unless someone knows of a dealer who can sell the 'basic' 8" model at no more than list price ($240 and it was VERY hard to get him to pay that much for a knife) then he will have to have a Cold Steel Tai Pan, which is still a very good knife.

As I said, I tried my best.

I will myself at some point put my name down for the Model 1 knife.:)

I'm not near my books right now but if you look in the back of any of the Knives annual books you will find a bunch of Randall dealers. Or you could email Rhett Stidham or Greg Gutcher(makes the Randall sheaths) and maybe they can point you to someone who has it for immediate delivery. Also try www.nordicknives.com

Dave

edit: you could also post in the knives wanted forum explaining and maybe someone on BF has one to sell your friend.

We are currently sold out on our dealer allotment of RMKs until May of 2003. Better than the 3 yrs from the shop but unfortunately not much help to you for quick delivery. Greg

That's a beauty BoyNHisDog....gorgeous piece! I was gonna get emotional about this argument..., but it's all been said...(and with very valid points by all)....GREAT THREAD!

Thanks ExamonLyf,

Sometimes you procure an object that you just know that you are going to try and take it with you. This one is definitely it for me. When the Vikings went on to Valhalla, born there by the Valkyries, for an eternity of feasting and fighting, they were accomanied by their swords. I'll choose this Randall, but if I get a second choice, why not a Sebenza. It's all good.

Take care
