Are Spyderco boxes PRINTED in China?

Making tiny cardboard boxes isn't exactly high on the list of jobs I'd like to see returned to Americans. It's just a box!
...snip...

Could you PLEASE edit your post and only leave the above part.

This is not the place/room to let us know how you feel about Hillary Clinton.
You should know that.

They give you a box made in China so that you have something to cut up right away with your knife.

LOL good one but I like to keep my boxes. They should at least make the boxes here for the USA made models. The last two Spydercos I bought, a Manix 2 and PM2 came in the red China made box. Only cool thing about them is they seem to glow in the dark, must be whatever was in the 66% recycled material :p

Done,now have BITEME edit too:D

Thanks, buddy
Just sent him an email. I would hate to see him moved to the DA thread for quoting someone. Its happened to me, and thats why I put the ...snip.. in this time:p

As far as the boxes, I would rather have the older made in USA box. I think they looked much better, and I try my best to not own any knife related items from China.
It won't stop me from buying them though. I guess I can live with a China made knife box:p

Lol,no problemo Ken. We are all amigos here.:) My sense of humor gets away now and then. I'm really happy to live in a time with such quality knives, the box doesn't even matter.;)

I think some here are being a LITTLE prissy about a box, like Sal said most Men throw the box away.
I'm not sure I can agree with this. I was speaking to a fellow a couple weeks back that works in a plant that makes plastic bags. You know, the ones that grocery stores etc use? Apparently they are made in the U.S.A..
My point is that if I buy a fairly expensive knife not only because I like the build, but because it is made right here in America, shouldn't I have a reasonable expectation that the box is too?
Maybe I am expecting too much, but I would prefer that every bit of my hard earned money went to Americans, to keep Americans working.
I just looked at one of my Benchmade boxes, and it said Printed in the USA.

Had to bring Benchmade into this. Looks like theres a chance of Spydercos going up in price again (and it has nothing to do with the knife).

Sorry, didn't mean to hurt anybodies feelings. To me a knife is a tool. I have a Spyderco in my pocket at the moment because I like it. On any given day it may be a Benchmade, an ESEE, or one of my old SCHRADE U.S.A. made knives. My only stipulation is that it be made here in the U.S.
Now if I like the knife, but it went up a couple bucks because of the box, I would still buy it.
OTOH, when you loose your job because it went over seas, I would be offended for you. I'm sorry if that is wrong.

You seem to have much more feelings invested in this box than I.

You should start several petitions at whitehouse.gov.

An American made Spyderco box will be a nice touch but do you want to see real change? Everytime you call any CS over the phone, get that foreigner off the line and speak to the Supe and complain that they are taking jobs away. Dont use cell phones until they are made here again. Dont wear jeans made outside of the US, everytime you buy an item with a box made outside the US, return it. Make sure you target the BIG companies. If we all do that, it will be easier for relatively miniscule companies like Spyderco to follow suit. Till then , getting political and complaining about KNIFE BOX economics on a message board wont change a thing. Except maybe some moral high ground amongst those who care in said forum.

You're not changing s*** except maybe some extra profit for Spyderco's American employees to share for themselves. Its another cost. Its a damn box. Its a tiny company. Lets start with Apple co. Boxes then we'll talk.

Hi Lavan,

Our retail outlets wanted "nicer" packaging. I don't like putting a buch of money into a box that will be thrown away. So we compromised.

Hi Sal,

That makes since. :)

It would be a bad thing if the boxes cost more than some of the knives. LOL

There is always the super custom baggie approach option with a zip tie if they really wanted to get fancy. :D

I don't think anyone here is worried that much about the box.
I can't imagine anyone not buying them because of the box.

No need to go off on an absurd tangent about not buying a phone because they are only made in China or returning items with boxes made in China. That's the same tired argument anyone who loves buying China made goods always uses.

I prefer to buy products made in USA or western Europe when the option is available. If the option is not there, like a cell phone for example, I deal with it and live with the China made product.

You also say it doesn't change anything it's just a damn box. True it is just a box and it probably won't sway anyone from making a purchase, but they used to be made in USA so it's fair enough to ask why they stopped. Also the people working in the American company that print these type of boxes might say otherwise about it being just a damn box; to them it's probably their livelihood. The money they earn will hopefully also go back into the American economy, who knows maybe even profiting the company you work for.

Alright, fair enough. Lets do something about it. My tangent had a point that miniscule companies are forced to do this for a reason. I feel for the guy who makes boxes, I really do. Me saying its just a damn box and people moaning about it is a bsurd is separate from that aspect of it. If you want change, the big companies need some proddin too.

We can wonder all we want and complain... Perhaps they will return to US made boxes. Hooray big win. Its the principle! The world becomes a much better place now.

Stop wondering and do something about it. Dont buy them until they give the guy back his job!

Every penny that we save on a box, goes into the growth of our US plant in Golden.

Tell me this, what percentage of Spydercos customers buy OnLY their US knives? And from that percentage, how many are anal enough to actually boycott the brand altogether because of the box? Oh thats right... We are just wondering... More like looking for something to complain about. Am I wrong? Ok then do SOME REAL things about it for REAL change. Till then, I give Spyderco the benefit of letting them run their own business.
