Are Tac-Force knives any good?

Tacforce is a producer of knife shaped objects.

0- 20 range Look into Opinels, Sanrenmu, mora, cold steel Kudu, and kabar folders. (Also there are like 8 quadrillion chinese knives that are decent and cheap.)

20-30 Spend a little more and look into getting a Rat 2, ganzo and the cold steel hold out 3 in aus 8

Another shout out for the RAT folder from Ontario. Its one of my favorite knives.

Schrade is made in china now and they're modern type folders are often just cheapo knives rebranded ( I've seen some that were the same as tac- force knives )
Are your priorities to get a good functional cutting tool or does it have to be something cool and fast ?

Preferably both. I'm no knife guy, I just want knives that are well made and look flashy or sleek.
Colours are no priority but they're definitely nice.

I can't respond on tacforce, but there is/was a walmart flipper sold under the Ozark trail name. Not great, but useable. I paid about $4. When I realized they were decent, I grabbed one for every bag and glovebox.

I don't use them regularly, but when I have, they seem solid. At the price, I could stash one anywhere I thought I needed it.

As said, for $20 get a SAK.
If you want flashy and OHO, a Kershaw OSO Sweet, KaBar Dozier, Byrd Cara Cara 2, RAT I, Utilitac II, Kershaw Chill or even the Chinese Ganzos, Enlans, HARNDS and SanRenMus will be a much better buy for the money, all under $30, some under $15.

Do yourself a favor and stay away from Tac Force

those are not decent at all

I was given a little Tac Force stiletto. I keep it on the desk to open mail, but that's it. It would be unsafe to use as a tool.

Some cheap ones I actually use and like are the Kershaw Oso Sweet, Kershaw Brawler, and of course Opinels and SAKs.

It pains me to see folk come on here and say "I've been looking around Amazon and...."

There are so many great dealers here who actually support the forums and offer fantabulous service. Please support them back.

Those Ozark trails knives are not great, but I have had one at the barn for quite a while. It has held up to some reasonable use over the past 2 or three years. It has been at least 3 years since I bought one.

Don't get me wrong, it is not a favorite, but it looks up and does ok for staying sharp enough my wife can cut hay strings or whatever.

The little oso I bought my daughter is head and shoulders above it, but also cost 5x as much. For keeping one in a tackle box, glove box, emergency bag in the car, etc., they have been ok. They have spared my nicer knives some abusive treatment.

Coming from where they do, I am sure there are some really awful examples.

I have 2 similar cheapo knives, $10 for 2 from HD - they are "flippers" in the sense that they have a tab. Good enough for leaving on my desk at work and in my junk drawer at home but certainly not anything I am reaching for if I have an alternative. For $30 or so you can get a decent knife that any normal person will think is pretty great.

I know it's two or three times your original budget but how about saving up for a kershaw leek? Good quality, sleek looks, comes in colors.

^ This is the answer you were looking for.

People have had success buying from Amazon but I have heard so many horror stories.

I got a tac force for free once when I bought a tshirt online. I took it out of the box, held it, scratched my head wtf, and threw it straight in the garbage. Piece of shit mall ninja knife.

some folks here recommended KERSHAWS and the OSO Sweet model in particular. Give it a try. You won't have to up your budget nothing crazy to have a decent, fun, reliable and well known knife

Or any other Kershaw, by that same principle. Stick to known stuff

Sorry about the long reply.

Where you buy the knives isn't as important as what you buy.

A Little over a year ago, I had three acquaintances that are good friends with each other (they think of me as dad-like figure), purchase Tac-Force knives off Amazon and bring them to me to sharpen on my Wicked Edge sharpening system. These were $10-$15 knives that looked cool, but...

I disassembled the first knife for deep cleaning and it was complete crap. The lock was downright dangerous! All attempts to fix it proved to be a waste of time. The action and lockup of the other two were terrible and the blade geometry was a joke. I stopped and put all the parts in a bag and reassembled the worst one.

I immediately went on Amazon and purchased a Spyderco Tenacious, Byrd Cara Cara 2 and Ontario Rat 1. When the knives arrived, they were all sharp out of box. All had excellent action and secure locks, but I gave them the spa treatment and amazing edges anyway.

I gifted the knives to the three Tac-Force purchasers and showed them what made their super cheap import knives a bad value. I also explained that some moderately priced import knives (Keyshaw, Spyderco, Byrd, Ontario, etc.) are extremely well made and rival higher end knives. They agreed and tossed the bag of parts.

Every now and then one of the three converts brings me a nice new knife for sharpening.
I'm gonna disagree with you about this, you can't reasonably compare a knife that is 15 dollars to one that is 5 times that price. I bought a karambit from them just to see if they're any good, and in my opinion they're not bad for what you're paying for. I think that for the low price, it help up well. The action was honestly way better than I was expecting and it opened smoothly and quickly. Also it felt really nice and looked really cool. So I think they're underrated, if you're just looking for a cheap cool looking knife.
