Are the BK5's still stamped and not etched?

I read that the BK5 is going the way of the BK15, and it's pretty heavily discounted on most sites right now, so naturally I had to buy one. It came in the mail today, and is stamped with the old style smooth coating from before BK&T switched to laser etching. Was the BK5 never laser etched, or are all the BK5's being sold right now just old stock? I got it from a store named after a big river, and there were a lot of buyer comments there about it being stamped with the old style coating. It looks like another site that is popular for Becker's has a picture of the stamped version up as well, but the site doesn't mention if it's stamped or etched. I was hoping for a laser etched version, but if the stamped is all that is available I will keep it and not complain. I will probably strip it anyway, so I'm not too concerned about the coating.

Oh wow. I just searched the forums here for bk5 and found out about the BK20 deal. Sorry bank account. I guess I'll find out soon enough about the stamping.

I got my BK20 package within the last couple weeks, the machax was etched w/ new coating but the BK5 had the old coating and stamp.

I've never seen a laser etched BK5. I have seen a few claim they have one, but they never posted photos of it.

I've never seen an etched version either. I bought an extra 5 when there were rumors of its demise. Stamped. I got another one with the BK-20. Also stamped.

Here's two claims by the same person. Not saying it's not true, as I have no idea, I've just personally never seen one:

This only proves that someone is good with 'shopping. Gimping. Whatever. A picture might be worth a thousand words, but sometimes 999 of those words are damned lies.
I've never seen a laser etched one....and I never will :seenoevil:

We have a skeptic. And the beginnings of a great conspiracy theory.

i said no one will. NO ONE WILL :D

Well, CM Rick just sent me these to post up of the above knife in question. It is real and is very rare.

maybe i was not clear?

I'd be holding on to that bad boy. Very cool man.

All of my 5s are stamped and smooth, including that which came along with the BK20.

The etched and rough coated BK5 Dex posted is very cool indeed, from a collector's standpoint. For what I use my 5 for I prefer the smooth finish or stripped and polished.

That's as fine a Photoshop as I've seen. Dubz, are you sure you're not in on this conspiracy? :D
