. . . Well, I suppose that anything is possible!!!

As we prepare for the intro of the ASH 1 we find ourselves struggling to define the term HOG. . .

Being an inducted HOG will definitely have its benefits. . ..

Could it be that merely having an affection and small collection of Busse Blades makes you a HOG?

Could it be that everyone who owns at least one Busse Combat blade has a little bit of HOG in him or her?

Should we set parameters on the number or value of someone's collection in order to reach Hogdom?

Should there be several different levels of Hogdom such as "Piglet", "Oinker", "Alpha Boar", and "Old Guard HOG"???. . . .

Can I ever be drunk enough to figure this out on my own?

Oink at me Hogs. . . . tell me what you think!

I should be good and hammered by tomorrow night when I finally come to a decision. . . .

Let's drink!

I think Hog is a state of mind, that's why I nominated Barb at Blade.

She proved her status when she later became Knife Wife 2007 (and won a wicked AK47).

It's a subjective thing.

Perhaps there should be a secret ballot among a Hog jury.

Well, Amy-0 said I was a "Hog" - so I would think that this would count :)

I also have had the pleasure of placing an order once with the Janitor.......and that should count for something..........

And I once when checking on an order I got Amy to say hold on a min - and then she yelled "GARTH!!!" - so that should count.....

But compaired to some of the Uber-Hogs around here - I could accept the title of "Piglet" - if it would count for something :)

There are certain actions that should ensure Hog status, like:

Finding a hog tag or payload, or just looking real hard after it had been found and before someone fessed up.

Snatching a straight handle Badger attack before Mulder can grab it.

Buying a Busse for a friend/soldier.

Breaking a Busse knife without shooting it.

Getting your girlfriend to pose nude with your knives.

Naming a Busse knife (not like Susanne, like Hell Razor).

Beating A certain Busse in a cigar ash contest.

How about posting a pic of yourself with a Busse in interesting places - like church or something?

Or better yet - posting a pic showing that you have actually used a Busse that you got!!

While I have found a "Hog Tag", I still don't think of myself as a "Hog". To me, Hogs are people like Skunk, Porkducci, Porkerson, Porkaden, Porkbalt, Hammy, Onewhoporks, Bravadoink, and Buy Bacon just to name but a few.

I have neither the collection, nor the money to obtain enough INFI to be considered Hog-worthy. Am I a Hog in spirit? You bet. Do I bleed Busse black 'n gold through and through? You double Hog betcha! :D

But in all honesty, I guess I have come to the realization (a long time ago) that I shall forever nothing more than a simple piglet. And you know what? I am just fine with that. Really, I am. ;)

As I am sitting here sipping my Appleton Estate Extra rum and coke and fiddling with a Blade West score, I am pondering what it should take to be a member of Hogdom...

Maybe a small nest of Busses and an appreciation of festive beverages?

Whatever it takes, I want in:D:thumbup:

Maybe some kind of sliding scale, so those of us with lesser means (and smaller collections) can attain the sublime state.

It probably should include the overall philosophy of No Regrets!

And yeah, if I need to be called piglet, I can deal with that;)

Well, I do like the sound of Hog better than Piglet.

But if there needs to be some kind of differentiation between Uber-Hogs and lesser beings...

Hoglets?

Micro and Macro Hogs?

Mini and Mega Hogs?

Wee Hogs and Frickin Huge Hogs (with frickin laser beams) :D ?

This may just be the rum talking:yawn:

Well you know I get all serious about this kind of thing.

To me this group is a lot like the bicycle club that I have been a member of since 1992. To me that club is extended family and in a way so is this Busse forum; and I get kind of picky about family.

But for what it is worth my opinion is much like it is for new racers that want to join my club. It is all about the person being a good fit in the family and if they will contribute and not be a royal pain in the azz for the club’s board to deal with. We don’t really care about how good they are on a bike, just that they are good people. So when I think of this group in those same terms the number of knives makes little difference as long as you are in a way committed to Busse knives and the group of people that follow them. I have never liked places that you could just buy your way into, so guys with a massive collection don’t make it in my book if they are jerks. But then again there is a business aspect of this for Busse Knives that I never need to be concerned with in my life.

As more and more people come along I think the “levels of HOG” makes a lot of sense. In my case I was not expecting to be inducted this year at Blade and in fact I would not have inducted myself because I had not really proven myself to be here for the long haul. But if the was a lower level that would have been a good spot for me. Now after being around 18 months I kind of feel like it fits more. But then you may just be smarter than me and recognized that I was a better fit than I thought I was.

In any case thanks for making this a fun place and making super knives.

Tony G

P.s. Schuey2002 is a HOG. I think of Porkducci's sig line "... hogging what I can" If you have $500 a year to spend or $50,000 hogging what you can is what it is about.

you should be qualified for something (something on the HOGdom scale) when:

.....you're a positive force and feel you "fit in" into this subculture here on BF or on the Busse site.....

AND/OR

....you can bear the wait for over two months now on a certain (very special) Ganzaaa score and still not knowing when you get something....:confused:;)

Oh I almost forgot this part...

You are a HOG if you help me find a MOASH,Desert Warfare MS and a SHBA:thumbup:

(Because I am a HOG :D)

I think HOG levels make sense.....When I think HOG my first thought is a HUGE collection and the constant conquest for more....fellas like Cobalt, Randucci, Mulder, Jaxx, Eric Issacson and all those huge fans with the means for sweet collections come to mind....I think I'd forever be a piglet in that case....I don't think I've ever had more than 19 Busse's at one time....even now I've only got 5 SHBM's, a few EDC's, SFNO, SH-1ASE, FBMLE and a HOGFSH.....I figure the only reason why I'm a piglet is that I'm crazy for INFI and love to use it. I love my knives :D but I don't think of guys like myself as hogs. Maybe step levels would make it more comprehensive. Any way you look at it, we're all part of the Busse brotherhood ;)

I think it should be a measure of ones involvement / commitment to the Busse Community, whether you have one Busse or 2 dozen. I have found this to be one of the best communities in the on-line world and I think that can be directly attributed to its active members, which I like to think of as HOGs.

Whether the contribution is anecdotal, educational or just a video of a microwave being destroyed by a FBM to rap music - its what's make this the best forum on the bladeforums.

I say go with your gut on this one, have a drink, open the forums browse and make a decision. I'm good with that.

I say anyone who has owned, used and liked a Busse has a bit of the Hog in them. But most bloody certainly the Big Hogs are those guys who have ten pounds of INFI stockpiled. :D

I feel the tiered program would be the appripopiate way to go. Participation, as well as ownership needs to count.

Bur most importantly, it's Boss Hog's decision.

Now that we have that settled, how about some TAN/TAN blades, Jerry?:D

Absolutely a state of mind. When you live breathe and eat busse combat... it is a no brainer. Or when you schedule your life around a small internet community to see when the trough opens. Being a HOG is a life.... a very expensive, but proud life.

My Busse collection has grown exponentially over the last 4-6 months and I wouldn't consider myself a "HOG" even though the addiction for Busse blades keeps growing daily. I use the term addicition because that is the only way to accurately describe it. Being part of my first ganza (Bloodbathoganzaa) and actually scoring 4 of my selected choices just clinched the deal for me!

I think thew hardest part is defining what you currently(or historically) consider/ed a "HOG" and work with that as the frame work for aspiring "Piglets" like myself lol.

If "HOGDEM" come with benefits then I think the flood of potential HOGS does need to be filtered with some sort of conceptual framework?

...........Then again I just got off of work so I may still be far too sober to be responding to this thread rofl. :p ........NO REGRETS! ;)

Cheers,
Venom

I think anyone who owns Busse blades and has an addiction to Busse blades, the right mind setting and spirit.
Collection size, seniority (knowledge about Busse) and contribution to the Forum is definitely one criteria for me that separates a HOG from a Oinker or piglet.
