Well you know I get all serious about this kind of thing.
To me this group is a lot like the bicycle club that I have been a member of since 1992. To me that club is extended family and in a way so is this Busse forum; and I get kind of picky about family.
But for what it is worth my opinion is much like it is for new racers that want to join my club. It is all about the person being a good fit in the family and if they will contribute and not be a royal pain in the azz for the clubs board to deal with. We dont really care about how good they are on a bike, just that they are good people.
I know people have heard the phrase "a rose by any other name would smell as sweet."
To me, I care nothing about what someone calls me -- HOG, piglet, newb., whatever. What I DO care about are the people here in this forum and behind the scenes, the great blades that Busse puts out, the tremendous customer service, and using what I have (including giving others a chance to use them in many cases). I try to be helpful when someone has a question, and patient when someone has a hard time understanding or accepting the Busse family of knives and everything they have to offer. Still, I appreciate a good trampling to the trough as well, and I am no worse for the wear. But in my mind, that is just me being me.
Chris
I say anyone who has owned, used and liked a Busse has a bit of the Hog in them. But most bloody certainly the Big Hogs are those guys who have ten pounds of INFI stockpiled.![]()
Well stated. I agree 100%.It occurs to me that one criteria might be that you've looked long and hard for that Busse that is no longer made. Almost anyone, with a little effort, can score blades at BCS or (even easier) order them from the Shop. But you have to be really devoted to find a Busse that is highly sought after and is no longer produced. It requires getting to know people here, doing considerable networking, and being persistent. Then... striking as soon as the opportunity arises. I love some of the knives I got from the Shop, but some of my most prized Busses are the ones I had to really work for.
So, I would propose a system by which guys/gals nominate people that they
think should be HOGs......that have helped them out, been super cool in communication,
have gone above and beyond what most most people would do for a person.
. . . Well, I suppose that anything is possible!!!
As we prepare for the intro of the ASH 1 we find ourselves struggling to define the term HOG. . .
Being an inducted HOG will definitely have its benefits. . ..
Could it be that merely having an affection and small collection of Busse Blades makes you a HOG?
Could it be that everyone who owns at least one Busse Combat blade has a little bit of HOG in him or her?
Should we set parameters on the number or value of someone's collection in order to reach Hogdom?
Should there be several different levels of Hogdom such as "Piglet", "Oinker", "Alpha Boar", and "Old Guard HOG"???. . . .
Can I ever be drunk enough to figure this out on my own?
Oink at me Hogs. . . . tell me what you think!
I should be good and hammered by tomorrow night when I finally come to a decision. . . .
Let's drink! :thumbup:Jerry.
Wow. A 1:35 AM post and 31 replies (32 now) already.
I think Hogwash is right. If everyone would simply get their girlfriends to pose nude with their knives, then we'd have ourselves a group of HOGs.
