Are You A HOG?. . . .

Thanks for clearing that up. Maybe my idea of a Hog was not correct.

Nah I think your version was a little "all or nothing"

I have alot of customs, rats, Dogs, RAT, HI's, Becker's, EK's, Buck and others just in fixed blades. Many many more makers and brands with folders.

From the Becker and HI collections that I have seen from some current HOGS I would say its more than OK to own other brands.

...you can keep the trees we want at those Brook Trout....

it's hard to beat fishing for Arctic Char in Labrador .... Northern Quebec fantastic eating and great fun to catch (a lot like salmon)...

Me just a little un-important piglet. My little chunks of INFI don't even qualify me for table scraps;)

Hmmmph... You, sir, are a HOG. Not doubt about that one. ;)

Maybe not when you are wearing the party dress but otherwise? HOG for sure. :D

I'm not just a Hog.....I AM HEAVYHOG!!!!

THIS IS HOGDOM!!!! I scream as I kick a little piggie off the edge of the trough...

Hog is a state of mind. If you have Busse that you love so much that you won't rest till you have them all...you might be a hog....

Silly Heavy, that scream was my Hell Razor in your foot as you were kicking me off the trough! :D Seriously, except for wanting that really nice Springer, I never had any idea hanging around HOGS could be so much fun!:D:D:D

A girl needs a knife...preferably one of each!

It seems like there should be an easy answer...

The community that has developed around Busses and the sister companies just through the forums is fantastic. I'm not even very active in any of the forums lately but I read through them every day that I'm near a computer. The information, humor, and comradery here and even away from the forums is second to none, and I'm proud to be part of this community.

Whether someone owns one product from Wauseon or a hundred should not matter IMHO. Involvement here should not be a determining factor either, as there are individuals that do not participate in the forums yet have the same passion for Busse knives and swear by them.
It is the long term enthusiasm and commitment that should make someone a HOG in my opinion.
In addition, it is not the simple understanding of phrase "just in case you CAN take it with you", but rather the mind set of "which two AM I taking with me and who should my wife contact to assist in the proper distribution of what's left"...ganzaaaa style:D

To me, a HOG is one of those guys who curses all other brands and only buys Busse Combat knives.

Horn Dog, I've been known to occasionally buy a Becker.

I also seem to have more Buck 110s than I can remember, and then there's all those Spydercos...

Oooh... and all makes and manners of hunting knives. I like hunting knives too.

Hey, I'm from a major cheese producing country. Do I qualify, can I be a Hog too ? Who is the Hog minister of foreign affairs ? Who will be Hog secretary of state ? Who will defend the rights of all Hogs foreign and domestic ? We need a Declaration, we need representation, we need impunity, WE NEED INFI !!

I am still blaming my lack of medication for my error. Nice bunch of Beckers!

Ummmmmm Beckers!

Jerry, for the Record..."I AM A HOG!!!!"

and ...It's a state of mind as I've posted many times, many on here are Hogs and several aren't.

You need to do several levels of "Hogdom"

PS...It's not how many knifes you have, it's how you got them and why.
I remember an early post said something like "I've only owned 19 knives at one time"
BaWaHahahahaha....I've owned 19 SHBM's at one time, but I learned to "Share" the INFI and I'm a better Hog for that.
Number of knifes will place you in a "Class of Hog" but it won't make you a Hog.
A Hog is a spirit, a mind set, a way of life here and with others.
I'm a better person because of the Hogs I've meet here, I hope I've given as much as I've taken with me of the people and Hogs here, at Blade, in Indy, and where ever I've came across Roaming Hogs....

Now can someone send me one of those Bowie Proto FBM's at the show cost? come on, help a lil' piglett out!!!!

oink...oink...

I think HOG levels make sense.....When I think HOG my first thought is a HUGE collection and the constant conquest for more....fellas like Cobalt, Randucci, Mulder, Jaxx, Eric Issacson and all those huge fans with the means for sweet collections come to mind....I think I'd forever be a piglet in that case....I don't think I've ever had more than 19 Busse's at one time....even now I've only got 5 SHBM's, a few EDC's, SFNO, SH-1ASE, FBMLE and a HOGFSH.....I figure the only reason why I'm a piglet is that I'm crazy for INFI and love to use it. I love my knives :D but I don't think of guys like myself as hogs. Maybe step levels would make it more comprehensive. Any way you look at it, we're all part of the Busse brotherhood ;)

I, too, am fine with the idea of "levels" of HOGdom.

I was inducted at Blade '07, but there's just no way I qualify as high in the HOG hierarchy as Cobalt or ProGunner.

And I very much agree with Tony G's sentiments. It's not about the number of knives you have -- Schuey2002 is at LEAST as much a HOG as I am!

[Having been around only a little over a year, I think of myself as an 'inducted piglet' ... or maybe an 'inducted oinker.' Of course, I still aspire to full inducted HOGdom -- some day!] :D

Wow......a lot of responses and more than a few opinions. As you would expect.

When I originally wrote about the definition of being a HOG I meant that a HOG is a HOG, just some are more porcine than others. I don't think that there should necessarily be levels of HOGDOM or a class distinction, as it were. In my opinion we should not be seeking the next rank or level but seeking more INFI and more fun.

1Whobuys nailed it I think.

I have been on the receiving end of the true spirit of HOGDOM, in a very real way, as have more than a few of us here on the forums and I hope I am in the position to give something back one day.

I have been privileged to be counted among the ranks of the HOGS and I try to remain worthy of the title. Despite the motto of "No Regrets" I fear that I will never be able to give as much as I have gained from being a HOG.

Jerry,
I'm sorry that I can't help in deciding who should be a HOG and who shouldn't. I think things have worked real well so far if that's any help. :(
I'm sure you will come up with the proper solution.

Sorry for getting all mushy.

Time to go and make dinner and try to figure out how to get another Custom Busse.

Regards,

Nick

I have hogged what I can, shared what I can, made connections where I can, and work to help whenever I can.

I tell everyone who will listen about INFI. :)

I'm am not for levels of HOGDOM, as I believe you either are - or you are not, a HOG. However, I will abide by Jerry's rules - they're his to establish.

All the best,

John
