.....are you a knife tart.....?

My name is Carl, and I am a total knife floozy. Tart. tramp.

I've tried in the past to be true to even a pattern, but I've failed miserably. Like the fabled whore of Babylon, my head is turned by a new pen knife, a different SAK, a sexy little Sardinian resolza, or even a plain Jane working class Douk-Douk. :(

The longest I was even semi loyal, was my old Buck 301 stockman. But even then, a few Case and Eye-Brand sodbusters came and went, a Barlow or two, and the sneaky Opinels that wormed their way into my presence. I was a total floozy by nature. Worse than a gambling addict that tells the old lady that he was mugged on the way home instead of being honest that the lost it in a back room poker game. Worse than the drunk in the alley with a bottle of cheap wine.

I even tried to be a loyal Case peanut carrier like my dad. I saw that man carry a single little peanut for most of his life that I knew him, but I failed at that. Total floozy.

On theater hand, I've had the experience of having and carrying a lot of nice knives. Some of them were better than others, and cut like the dickens. ;)

It's been a long strange trip, but I've enjoyed every mile of it. Even though I've been a complete tart, floozy, tramp. But I mean well!:D

I'm a user, not a collector. Over the past 5 years or so, I have bought pretty much every pattern Case makes and eliminated most of them from my stash - selling those I didn't care for to buy ones I know I'm going to like. I've narrowed my interests down to maybe 10-12 patterns. My wife says I'm not afraid of color - so I delve into the modern dyed bone with character and acrylics, as well as traditional colors. So, thats pretty much where I'm at in my accumulating - have most holes filled & am now pretty selective on what I'm looking for, plus I've about run out of room ... and money.

Lastly, I'm the ultimate eBay bottom feeder - I put in a ridiculous amount of time searching deals and I get some amazing ones, but truth be told, out of my 100+ piece Case collection, the number of times I've paid full retail can be counted on one hand ... just goes against every fiber of me

.....oops, what have I done

Besides the tart you eat, here in UK a tart is also referred to a loose lady who will seek the company of more than one man - so we use it to take the mickey out of someone who will use/buy/collect many different things rather than sticking to just one type
Here in Kentucky we call them “good sports”

I’m stuck on gec products, I own several different brands

In my youth I could have certainly been guilty of having a roving eye but in recent years I've down sized my life style

Since dropping to the magnifient 7 a few years ago I've managed to stick to it.

I'm strickly a 1 in 1 out guy these days

I have plenty of preferences but often make exceptions! When I am breaking my own rules it is often because I am at an antique store or flea market- sometimes a knife will just “call” to you:thumbsup:

I get to hungry to stand in the fray'
Got no patience to wait for the day
It ain't no joke
I'm broke

Hate being specific
It's cold and it's cramped
And this guy's a tramp

Will go to Harlem for barlows and pearls
Like the dish with the dirt
And all the other girls

Don't care about nice dames ...patterns or stamps
I've got that fast free wind in my hair
Life without care
This guy is a tramp

Had the term been "girls" or "woman" there would not have been ambiguity - but with ladies you have to supply a directional adjective.

How about Merriam-Webster instead? Or perhaps Collins?

But you could use the popular form of The Lady Is A Tramp. Language changes. Behavior doesn’t.

Nelson Riddle arrangement, no doubt.

Nope, Ed Bruce is good enough for me. Plus it's catchy.
I have heard many a tales from friends about yes's and maybe's while dating that instantly became no's after marriage. So, behavior does change :D

Tart here...I don't discriminate against traditionals and by dabling in a little bit if everything, I came to learn what I actually like. I started in Barlow's about 15 years ago, then stockmen, then big single blades, then Jack's, and now I'm pretty content in whittlers and pen knives.

Across the years though I've had an affinity for pearl handled gents knives (senators, lobsters, pens, small congresses, etc) and keep a small collection of those on my dresser.

I enjoy the hunt for a good deal more than anything. As much as I like GEC knives, finding unused/lightly used old USA made knives for cheap is what keeps me interested.

Absolutely, Slapper even:D

If a knife takes my fancy and I've got the money I'm after it ;) no time for structured pedantry in a knife collection, too boring and sterile:cool:

Like everything else, got to have variety, I mean who really wants to eat the same meal everyday?;) Bit like being in prison..or Death Row:eek:

Also, when I've seen and heard the British of both genders use the word 'Tart' it may have a slightly risqué aspect but it's almost always applied to somebody attractive looking...not so bad eh?

I'm not sure. I can't afford the GEC knives.
I carry a CASE peanut with the Patriotic karinite handles that my girlfriend bought me. If I buy a knife it is used with lots of character and has to be at a decent price.

Otherwise the brand and pattern don't seem to matter.

Hey, maybe I am a t"

Hey, maybe I am a "tart". Best watch I don't get a ktd.

Kinda funny cause as many knives as I make, ya'd think I would be, but I'm not really a knife tart. Maybe 3 or 4 fixed blades I didn't make from the ol days and 3 traditional folders (two which were gifted from guys here on BF including my Yorkshire friend Jack) and a few of my own prototypes. Thats it really, hardly a tart. The wife on the other hand proudly wears the title of "rope ho" bestowed on her by a good friends wife. Their business sold ropes and my wife would always have them bring a few when they came to visit. To this day I'll come into the office and find her pouring over some internet catalog of ropes and placing an order. Course she does put em to good use. Practicing:
