.....are you a knife tart.....?

Reading through, it’s very apparent that there are different approaches to buy and collecting, or even “accumulating” ;)

Having thought about it over the last day, I think one of the biggest issues for me is the way the world of slipjoints has grown so much, particularly last five years, and choice has widened. We now even have the likes of CRK and ZT making them too.

The latter are very nice, very nice indeed, but my heart beats faster when there’s Stag, Horn or Des-Ir involved, for example, so I tend to buy with natural materials only. If I could afford to buy (and be able to buy) only Bose, Oeser etc., I would if I could - but I can’t.

Having taken delivery of the Blade Forums folder recently, I’ve handled s GEC for the first time so my fingers itch and quiver over the keyboard looking at other models too

But I must seriously slow down and focus on a more select few. Just last year, lionSTEEL brought out some beauts - before I knew it I had a drawer of 12 of them.

No, there’s nothing wrong with collecting as much/what you want, nothing at all. But I think I’ll be more content if I sell many of my sharps and settle down to a more select few types/varieties. Have been collecting and using a number of years now and have more than I need...

I may have grown past the total tartness stage. Like most everyone here I’ve had many knives and sold many too. These days I characterize myself as a light user. I creep around with my “rollator” or my wheelchair although I am working to set those aside for something like a cane. So, as you can see, I’ve no need for more than a useful pocket knife. However, since I have acquired an addiction to hand produced quality production folders, my little accumulation consists of Great Eastern Cutlery knives only.

I have been subject to some pernicious attitudes  here that influenced my trying another brand. This never works out for me. The few times I’ve had a brand XYZ production knife and compared it to a GEC I am always reminded of Wild Bill’s declaration that life is too short to smoke cheap cigars, so on the block it goes. I’m not putting down other folk’s preferences, just trying to explain that my tartness now has boundaries.

I suppose so. I have enough knives to last a lifetime, but I continue to buy more. This despite the fact that most of my knives are better than anything my grandfather owned.

On the other hand, I have a definite type. Much as I am drawn to dark women of raven brows and mournful eyes, I know what I want when it comes to knives. It doesn't matter that most others don't agree with me, I like what I like.

I like what I like;) vintage slip joints. Whatever catches my eye, the older I get the more I like knives from my era, being pre 1964 and back to the late 1880's. which runs very near vintage gun collecting interests. Interesting that the quality of knives and guns declined after 1964... However I will add I bought a Waynorth black jack recently that is of phenomenal quality :thumbsup:
