Are you known as a "knife guy", or do you keep it on the DL?

My friends and family know I'm a "knife nut" as do some acquaintances. None of them really care though and some think it's cool.

I'm on the down low.

My wife knows that I have a lot of knives, my daughter has some interest in the latest knife that I've gotten. One of my coworkers at my previous job, for a company that I was part owner of, knew I was a knife enthusiast. I changed companies and I'm not sure if my nwe coworkers would completely understand so I am on the down low for now.

Friends and family know I'm a knife and a gun guy, but when I'm out no one sees either unless I want them to. This is a PC nation now and unfortunately guns and knives are less and less PC. Shame.

I always carry and have for many years, so those that have known me for a while know I always have a knife on me. My co-workers know because I work in an environment where cutting tasks come up all the time, but they carry snap-off razor blades and don't get why I carry something nice. Other than that, those that know see the pocket clip, those that don't probably just gloss over it.

Seems I fall in with the majority on this one. Family and friends know for sure that I'm a knut, but I don't advertise in public and try to keep things reasonably discreet.

My close friends and family know that I have a passion for nice knives and guns, and if they are with their friends/family and the topic comes up my name usually follows close behind. I've had a few of my friends and family call me up and ask me to sharpen a knife or two for them or their friend or family member (which usually means fix a knife that USED to have an edge), or to ask for advice on which knife they should buy. However, in general public, I don't act much different... If I need to use my knife I will (mostly to cut my kid's food or a string off my wife's clothes), but I don't draw attention about it or try to look cool, I just use my tool. Besides, I live in the desert of Arizona, carrying a knife is the norm around here... Every now and again I see men who look like they walk off the set of an old western movie; cowboy hat, boots, big mustache, nice leather gun belt, beautiful leather sheath with a good size bowie, and a six shooter or two; go to the store without so much as a second glance from most people. But then again, I live in a tiny desert city a couple hours away from Tombstone, so its nothing like the places that some of you guys come from.

Sorry for the long winded post, I have a tendency to type more than I talk.
:D

It has only been about 6 months since I got the knife bug and have been a touch enthusiastic. I have learned that asking colleagues, friends and acquaintances, "Do you like knives?" Or "Do you want to see my new knife?" Isn't the conversation starter I thought it would be lol.

Immediate family knows, and very close friends know me as a "knife guy". And by very close friends I mean the type of people who know what you are about to do before you do it, and you don't refer to them as friends but family. They've known me long enough that it doesn't surprise them or put them at unease in any way. Nor can any of them really complain because they either carry a knife as well. Or ask to use my knife or cut something for them when something comes up instead of trying to tear something apart in an uncivilized fashion which seems to be the trend for people who don't carry knives and don't have a pair of scissors handy which is almost always the case.

I've open-carried fixed blades (required in Texas) for years. I don't hide my knife use. When I need to use a knife, I use it and put it away. While sheathed, I usually only get comments from other knife people wanting to know what it is. While using, I sometimes get comments from idiots about weapons. I just look at them and say "It's a tool, not a weapon." and proceed to ignore them as best I can.

Most that know me realize that this is another facet of my outdoor interests. For the rest I keep it D.L....... I get tired of explaining to people seemingly incapable of understanding.

Everyone that knows me, knows I love knives. Simply because I don't keep it a secret and I always have at least one on me.
I share openly that it's a hobby for me and that I enjoy them.
Most people don't care and find it interesting, others seem to think I'm weird, which, I am, but not because I like knives.

my friends and families see me as a knifenut. I never hesitate to use my knives (or another edc equipments i am carrying) but i keep it in a common sense.

I don't go out of my way to advertise my hobby but family and any friends who spend time with me know about it since I don't hide it either.

Close friends and family members know I'm a knife nut, but beyond that I keep it to myself. Most people that do know don't have a problem with it, though I have a family member that does. She constantly refers to it as an obsession and even goes so far as to call it a dangerous habit. I get reminded of this at least once a week. Truth be told, it's a bit annoying. But it's family, what can you do? I suppose she had a point as I am on blood thinners and have cut myself pretty badly, though only once. What a bloody mess that was. As for the rest of my family and close friends, I'm used as a source of advice and I do help them keep their knives sharp. However, I also offer to sit down with them and teach them how to maintain their knives themselves. To me, it's worth a whole lot more if they can learn the skills.

I keep it on the down low.

I had a man's man, firearm owning guy at the office freak out a little when I removed a staple with my Strider PT.

Unbelievable.

Everyone knows. It has its benefits when it comes to promoting my business.

Everybody knows me as "the knife guy" people often ask me what knife they should buy. Im also known as "the sharpening guy" but I guess that comes with the territory.

Same here. People I work with often ask me my opinion of their knife, or which one they should buy. And since I always have a diafold in my left rear pocket, I get handed knives or scissors to sharpen almost daily. I do not in any way, shape or form, try to hide my obsession with sharpened steel. ;-)

It's never gotten me in trouble either.
