How many of us can say that they are happy with the gear you have, IE blades, guns, survival gear?

How many of us can say that they feel they are well prepared for whatever the future holds, economic colapse, zombies, acts of God, whatever.......

Are you happy with the skillset you currently possess?

I feel I am bout 95% confident my family is well prepared, and my gear is sufficiant. I also feel my skillset is good enough. I always will like to learn new things, and practice things I know, as well as pass on instruction to those that will listen. I feel the responsability doesnt end with me. There are others close to me that need to focus on preparation.

There are things I would like to get ahold of, and always new gear to test out, but I feel we could fare pretty good here.

How do you feel?

I feel plenty good about the gear I have and I keep calm in a crisis situation, but I know my skills are lacking in many areas. My goal is to set up a time to get to NY to learn with Kev and Marty, or to Briar in MI with George.

Money and time are the 2 obstacles, but patience and planning can overcome them! Meanwhile I practice here and there when I can.

i feel like i am at about 70-80% of where i would like to be.

for camping, there are a couple of pieces of gear that i want, and then i will pretty much have my setup completed. $ is an issue, but i will save up and get them. i also feel pretty good about my skillset. i won't hesitate to learn new things, but i feel as though i am more or less covered for everything. i am lacking in technical map navigation (triangulating points etc) but i can follow a map decently.

as for being prepared for an end of the world type situation...we don't have any supplies set up besides a few gallons of water in the basement (well water means that toilettes don't flush when the power goes out). i am encouraging everyone to try to build up more of a stock, but space and $ are limited, so it will take time. i just hope the world doesn't end before i'm ready!;)

I feel pretty good!
My friend thinks the Dinosaurs are going to make a come back so he is trying to get his wife to let him have a 50. sniper rifle!

Sort of. I like what stuff I do have, but I'm still lacking some aspects that I'm planning to get (good pack, better trauma kit, more paracord, etc.) but I'll take care of that within the next couple months, probably.

As for my skillset, no, I dont really feel like I'm where I'd like to be. I mean, my firemaking skills are pretty good, and I feel like I could be succesful in the field with them. Same for my shelter making skills. I've been working on my snare/trap making skills, and I've been practicing like hell with my homemade sling (which, I'm getting decent with, but nowhere near where I want to be). The biggest thing that I want, and am taking steps towards achieving, is my medical skills. My EMT-B course starts Jan. 13 so that'll be a big help.

I dont know, it's a never-ending story with me. :p

Pretty happy with what I have with regards to the environments I camp, walk and travel in. There are a few bits and pieces I would like, but unless I go somewhere very cold I am 95% done.

I want to replace the firearms I used to have when I was single. It is a bit of a sore point between me and the Mrs' right now. Mrs' don't want guns in the house while we still have a teenage son. Son is a good kid, but sometimes makes bad decisions. Since he never grew up with guns then the possibility of a poor decision is a bit higher.

But, darn I really want to have a 12 gauge pump and a little rimfire again. Other then that I'm pretty happy. Even have 40 L of water stored and a couple 20lb bags of rice in case of need.

Edit - having re-read this it sounds a bit whiney and negative. I'd rather have Mrs happy and son in the house then the guns. Guns will wait a few more years :)

I am pretty well set gear wise and my skills are pretty well honed. However I still learn something almost every day. Thus, here I am.:D

I'm contented with what gear I have and the knowledge and skills I possess (although as has already been pointed out, one never stops learning).

Kind regards
Mick

I'm satisfied with my gear, but feel items are needed.

We are prepared for minor stuff like food shortages, power outages, bugging out, etc. and have sufficient stores to keep us going for an extended period of time.

My skill set is good, but I can use some training in the more primitive ways.

a man without a family is a man without a future,. so my graps says.
I know i can hunt , provide, gather and even kill if necessary. I am o.k with the skills I have. Most important I can brew beer,,,,,,

That's exactly why I learned to knapp flint arrowheads and spear points. I will be the only guy in my neighborhood who knows how to do this.
I missed out on IBM stock, Microsoft stock, the dot.com market, etc. I do NOT intend to miss out on my chance to get in on the ground floor here when the dinosaurs come back and people are really craving a good steak!

I've spent enough years (total time) living in the woods backpacking, learning those skills, built my own home in the woods and heated it with a home-made double-55 gal drum wood-burning stove through 20-odd years of New England winters, and enough time living in urban jungles of NYC, LA, Tokyo, etc. learning the skills needed for that situation. I have medical training (which really should be updated,) and a positive attitude. My wife trusts me implicitly and I trust her to do what's needed when it's needed. Of all of thes, I think the most important is the positive attitude. With that, everything else comes easily. I think we'll do OK if the need arises.

I'm 100 % confident that with the skills and gear I have I will survive any even remotely likely scenario. And the astronomically unlikely scenarios will most likely blow me up, and I'm fine with that. All out nuclear war? Tough luck, I wouldn't even want to survive that mess.

I'd have to agree with Simon on this one. I'm about 70-80% of where I'd like to be for my "needs" and about 50% of where I'd want to be to fit my "wants".

My gear suits my needs pretty well right now, but I don't feel I am truly prepared for an all out emergency or survival situation at this point.

Good thread.

I'm happy with my gear, I'm less than happy about my skillsets and even less happy with my fitness levels.

Actually, this is the part that bugs me the most. I have tried to get a fitness regime together, but I just can't seem to manage it, short of rising at 4am.

And I am a big lover of sleep, which I need in order to function properly at my job.

Gear is easy to acquire. Keeping fit on the other hand...

Definitely like Fuj, I find my self envious on many occasions.:D
But I have never had any of my gear fail on me, and I know that if something happened I would be prepared. Plus in far enough north if anything happend war wise, I kick it into the woods with the family. your on your own when something like that happens, beging dependent on your self is going to keep you and yours alive.
