With so much unrest in the world right, global warming and talk of solar flares etc what are ya thoughts ?

Does anyone buy into all the talk ?

I know that we have many church goers on the forum, do think what is happening is what was predicted in Revelations ?

With all that's happening in England right now it got me thinking about this quote~

I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones. ~

Here's what I see..
Population of humans can only get so large.
We are taking up too much space and resources.
Put too many rats in a cage, and they start eating each other.

At the same time, technology, computers, and gasoline have made us less self reliant.
We live in the age of fossil fuels, what age comes after those are gone? And they will run out..when, sooner than later my friends.

Pitdog,

If you're wanting to assess the Apocalypse as per the book of Revelation there's a couple of things to note.

1) Apocalypse is the Greek word for Revelation (that is to reveal or uncover.) Basically Jesus is saying I'm going to show you things which you would not have otherwise known.

2) Perhaps one of the most critical points for interpreting the book is to put it in it's context by understanding a couple of plain statements opening and closing the book. Rev 1:1, Rev 1:3, Rev 22:7, Rev 22:12, Rev 22:20. The fact is John writes and Jesus states, sometime around 90AD that these things are Shortly to pass and at hand, and that the Lord is coming quickly. Is the content of the book predictive? (telling the future) Yes. But it was telling concerning events which the Christians of the first century were about to face. Contextually (I won't go into it here/now) it is showing that Rome will again arise as a persecutor. That God will judge and destroy the nation. And that the Christians who remain faithful will be rewarded, even if they lay down their lives.

God bless,
Adam

No, Pitdog I don't buy it. But I would buy a new Knife.

Everything will be O.K.

It's looking like we are heading towards revelations. See the ultimate survival manual. Follow instructions in John 3:16. Enjoy the wilderness while you can!!!

Remember how we were all going to be eating Soylent Green when the population reached 5 billion?
Remember how we were all gonna be dead by nuclear war long before now?

Nothing big is going to happen.
We won't even starve...although we MAY end up eating recycled sludge patties.

I just read a book (fiction) called the Soft Apocalypse by Will McIntosh. In it, civilization degenerates for a good 20 years before totallit breaks down. Aside from some sci-fi elements, it seemed like a unique and realistic scenario compared to the usual astroid strike, nuclear war, etc.

The book was only okay as far as entertainment. The protagonist is not terribly likable. If anyone wants to read it, email me and I'll pass it along.

How would you define "we" :)? All of humanity throughout all the centuries and millennia to come? Current living generations?

Maybe is the doctor in me speaking, but Why wait until we (mankind) reach (or provoque) the Apocalypsis? It wouldn't be wiser, to prevent it, with population control, protection of the environment, finding new, renewbable energy sources, etc? Who would want to live in a "Book of Eli" world?

"If youre going to die, die with your boots on... If youre gonna try well stick around! Gonna cry? Just move along if youre gonna die, you're gonna die"

Iron Maiden lyrics to live by, not to be hardcore I just happened to be listening to it today on the way home from work :D

Hmmm. I wonder what banker tastes like? Barbequed banker on a sesame seed bun! :D

Seriously if any of the theories are true what can you do? Not a whole lot I'm afraid! Live for now, be happy you still have some luxury left in your life and if it all ends make peace with your life not losing sight of your own divinity. We are all natural born consciousness having a human experience. Its easy to get caught up at times but that thought has always calmed me after a twisted day! If the end comes well, as my mother used to say, make sure your underwear is clean and that you have matching clean socks on. I'm not sure why that was important. I guess so when they ID'd the body that I didn't embarrass her.

Being a highschool physics teacher I am always being asked about various TEOWAKI scenarios, (usually being promoted by the "Discovery" channel) My response is usually anything that eliminates the human population that isn't caused by humans would be a better end than we can currently expect based on how we choose to live. I think that T.S. Eliot stated it fairly well in the Hollow Men,

"...
This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang but a whimper"

The whole poem is rather grim and dark, but has a more than its share of truth

Now I am a religious person, so my personal thoughts are a bit different than the science of the matter, (cue sappy dramatic music) which from an astronomical standpoint tell us that the human race is bound to be forgotten in a cold, expanding universe where the stars burn out one by one untill there is no light, life, or anyone capable of seeing the few memorials of the human race. These memorials consist of a handfull of space-probes launched free of the inner solar-system before the sun swells up and scorches whatever remains of the the surface of the planet that we will always be bound to. (cut music, use "needle scratch on record sound effect) Hmmm. I think I've decided against a gym membership after all. (cue rimshot)

My personal thoughts on the current state of the world are probably too religious to be posted here. Hmmm, without a gym membership I can probably get a few new knives (rimshot, version 2)

Does anyone have a rough Contingency plan for certain global disasters, for example do you have you a place in mind that you'd wish to reach if SHTF in your town ?

Say there was a pandemic etc, have you thought if you'd batton down the hatches where ya are or would you take to the woods ?

Has anyone stashed away silver/gold as trade tender should the economy collapse in any such scenario ?

I'm not religious in the slightest and never have been but I don't see why it should not be allowed on this forum.....within reason !

The strongest tool in our survival kit is the power of our mind. Most survivors of survival scenarios make it out because they make up their mind that they are not going to die, a positive mindset is an amazing thing ! So if someone has strong religious beliefs and that gives them the confidence that they are gonna make it out of the given disaster then it's going to be of far more use than any knife or flashlight !!!

You may not, but I do. We have seen too many religious and political subjects blow up into proselytizing, trolling, bitterness, and dissension. That's why we "quarantine" them in the Political Arena, where we can control the consequences. If this goes down that trail, ... it won't last long.

Ok, here goes,

In general terms, what is happening is considered by many to religious individuals to be part of a buildup leading to the end of the world as it currently is. Revelations states that there will be a war of unprecidented size shortly before this end occurs. When this happens the world in its entirety is predicted to be a place of uncertainty and unrest. My particular church stresses emergency-preparation and self-reliance both as a practical way of dealing with the localized emergencies that are occuring in the world, and as absolute necessity for the day when many of the things which we currenly take for granted (like going to the grocery store for the weeks food) are gone. People who believe in this feel that, although the world will be remade into a good place eventually, even the "righteous" and good people of the world will not be spared the hardships of trials to come. We love life, and we love peace, but many of our members are soldiers (my Father fought in Vietnam, and my brother is a career Naval Officer) because above all we value freedom. The following verse from a Hymn sums it up pretty well.

"And should we die before our journey's through,
Happy day! All is well!
We then are free from toil and sorrow, too;
With the just we shall dwell!
But if our lives are spared again
To see the Saints their rest obtain,
Oh, how we'll make this chorus swell-
All is well! All is well!"

(I hope that I kept this post vanilla enough.)

Soldier, ask not, now or ever,
Where to war your banners go.
Anarch's legions all surround us,
Strike! and do not count the blow.

By the way, the name of the New Testament book is Revelation.
