Armageddon/ Apocalypse......what's ya thoughts ?

There's lots of ways that we humans could be killed off, that's always been the possibliity. There's only one reason there's so many of use now, fossil fuels.
We will run out of fossil fuels, and there is no other power source or fuel that's going to keep our modern lives the same. Nuclear power plants take lots of power to build, without other fuels how can they be built?
Sure, solar, wind, water can be used, but how many car companies use those three resources to build cars?
"The meek shall inherit the Earth", or at least those that can be self sustaining farmers, and use animal power.
We will run out of gas, and much of the modern technology we use in our daily lives. Future humans will all be living off the grid.

Everyone dies----

But not everyone lives!!!!!

Hear, hear!

Those few words typed out by William above are so profound ,but yet simple. IMHO you live your life like there is no tomorrow, because tomorrow as we know it may not exist. I believe that most of us that are in this thread are here because we are at least interested or have gave the Armageddon a passing thought. Who knows what is around the corner for us. Honestly, it wouldn't take much to throw society into turmoil, or civil unrest, I mean you can look at what happens when natural disasters happen or what's happening in Great Britain right now.

I say prepare for what you can, such as civil unrest, natural disasters, a collapse in society, etc. Other than that, there's not much preparing one can do in the physical sense for a "spiritual armageddon", for a lack of a better term.

How would you define "we" :)? All of humanity throughout all the centuries and millennia to come? Current living generations?
Most of humanity for at least the next 1000 years.
Education of women and getting them working reduces ridiculous birth rates. New tech allows for easier living "off the grid"...just look at camping solar panels and such things.
And don't forget THESE words of wisdom: "Eat recycled food; it's good for the environment and it's okay for you."
Yum!!!:D

I won't disagree with any of that though if we were betting over/under I believe I'd have to take the under.

Recycled food...hmmm... if it gets to that point in my lifetime I think I'll just have to convince myself that I'm doing all that is necessary by producing my own waste based fertilizers.

I agree this is the most likely. People rely on fossil fuels for everything and when it dries up I don't think there will be enough food supply to sustain us very long. I think we can look at other starving countries in the world like Somalia to give an example of what could happen but I think the difference is those people aren't soft like us when it comes to civil unrest. How far would people go to make sure their families are taking care of? I don't see alot of sharing of food and supplies in a situation like that so the alternative will always be take by force which will spread out of control.

I think it was Ron Hood who talked about storing food and supplies on one of his videos where he said when he was moving in his new neighbor said what's all this stuff? When he found out what it was he said good to know, now I know where to come when shtf. Ron replied back I know who to shoot first when shtf.

1. I think people have been thinking about Armageddon/ Apocalypse too much.

Not me. I spend most of my time thinking about hurricanes, glacier calving in Nordic fjords, super volcanoes, Mayan calenders, cessation of thermohaline circulation, killer asteroids, antibiotic resistant bacteria, MAD and those gosh darn killer bees.

ETA: I haven't been out of the house in 379.4 days. If Florida ends up all Atlantean this year, could one of you kind souls please tell my mother that I love her. Scratch that, just tell her I said, "I told you so!" :D

my theory, and we all know how smart i am,is nothing is going to happen,we will just continue as a species to self destruct in the name of progress, albeit with canvas micarta scales and m90 steel,so its nt all bad

Every minute someone or some group of people on this planet are living the own apocalypses and most of us barely notice it.
If you want to know how your immediate piece of world might look like after a complete society breaks down look at the international news rather than at the Hollywood movies. Famine, civil war, political unrest comes and goes but seems to be always around. Empires have crumbled and new nations have risen throughout history without people going back to be cavemen.
Be realistic in your scenarios and use common sense instead of irrational fear as your guide.
No intention to preach, just my personal view.

Mad max says everything's gonna be just fine. :)

I think the only event that will begin to knock some sense into humanity is a natural disaster(on a global scale) or ALIENS(friend or foe will do).

Things that get me thinking a bit...
-Polar Reversal
-Solar Flares
-Rising Price of Beer

Thank you..... your profile name is fitting in this instance. I am not a religious man but I think if there is a heaven/hell/revelation/armageddon/etc... every aspect of it is happening as I type this. I saw a documentary on street kids in India. One of the children said that he wished he was rich so he could buy all the other kids food and a place to live. There are individuals elsewhere, who could easily afford to change the face of these places and are either oblivious, indifferent or at the worst, exploiting their plight to make a buck..... that is the real "Apocalypse".

As far as W&SS and preparedness... Try to at least get yourself to the point where the impact of shortterm incoveniences like blackouts, icestorms, fuel shortages don't pose a significant danger. It is my belief that in a longterm disaster scenario, the "community" mindset will prevail rather than a "Lonewolf" approach.

For many the apocalypse happens every day, just look at the obituaries. As for when the big one hits, there is not a lot one can do other than keeping one's basic supplies up to date, and fresh gas for the generator.

LOL...I have to laugh at the ' Stop worrying ' and don't fear it ' comments as if this is something that occupies my every thought !

I just thought it might be a nice change of pace talking about a large scale survival scenario rather than the usual Bushcraft topics.

My own idea of an Apocalypse is that there will be some pandemic/virus that will take out a large portion of the world. I'm very suprised that terrorists haven't already infected water supplies as it seems quite an obvious target !
