Dan, do you use the carbide countersink for drilling out the guards? I heard that was a better way to go than using a standard drill.

Norm - for guards, I drill out three holes then mill the "inbetweens". Without a milling machine, I used to drill them and then slowly file them "together" with a round file, and then flatten everything out with a thin flat file.
 
I find it hard to have much sympathy for a man who decided a safe, secure, well paying job was not making him happy. Knife making probably won't make you rich, but you sure can right off those hog hunting trips as business expenses:D I sure hope you did anyway. Wish I could write hunting off on my taxes.
